Liquid Diet...
:type:I had my RNY surgery on the 23rd of October and I'm feeling really good. I have little to no pain but I'm finding it very difficult to stick to the liquid diet. I don't know if it's the fact that I know I'm going to have to wait until the 16th to be released from it, or if it's that my body is asking me for protein. I have been drinking the carnation instant breakfast with my skim milk daily...just finding it harder and harder:barf:. Anyone have or having the same problem, post back...I'd like to hear what you did to overcome it! I have lost 25 lbs so far, I was shocked when I checked this morning...just out of curiousity, anyone else have the same results so quickly?? I think my BMI was 45 btw.:help:
Jennifer-
WOW I'm surprised that your doc has you on a liq diet until the 16th!! I had surg the same day you did, and also am feeling great, but I was moved to the soft food stage as of Weds. I know how frustrating it is to have to gag all that protein down by drinks. Have you tried a product called Unjury? I think the website is www.unjury.com and I ordered some sample packets of the product to put into things, but haven't tried it yet. ALso if you do an internet search for Protein-ex, that is a product is already broken down protein and it's like 12 grams of protein for 2 tablespoons. Evidently it tastes awful, but it's only 2 tablespoons that you have to gag down, so it's not so bad. I haven't tried that one yet, but I will. What I have tried, is the Slimfast carb control. It's got 4 carbs and 20 protein in 2 servings.
I know it's tough those first days when you're hungry and sooooo sick of what you are eating. HANG IN THERE. The 16th will come very soon.
Congrats on your weight loss up to now, and good luck in the future.

Well, all doctors are different and mine seems to be very very strict...although I can't complain too much because pre-op I only had to do 1 day of liquid and mag. citrate. I think I'm going to call tomorrow and ask if I can be seen sooner than the 16th, because I seriously doubt if I can wait that much longer. I haven't had a BM in 4 days...is that normal, did you have the same problem? I wonder if it's because I'm not eating anything, just drinking. I couldn't believe the scale when I looked this morning and it said 214. SURPRISE...I've lost 28 pounds so far. I like the results...just not the torture that comes with it! Thanks for adding me as a friend and good luck on your weight loss!!!!
Hi Jennifer,
I too had surgery on the 23rd. I'm feeling very good and at my one week post-op appt I was put on a more pureed: mashed potato/Campbell's creamy soup textured diet. Have you gone to your one week post op? I know all doc's are different. My doc doesn't want me or his patients in general to get protien from powders & drinks. I know if I do need to get suplimental vitamins/protein he'll let me know at my one month post op visit.
PS. sounded like we started about the same size (BMI) I weighed myself today and I've lost 18 lbs.

Thanks for the insight...and yes, my doctor is VERY strict. It's for my benefit though, they don't (and I don't either) want complications which would mean me having to go under the knife again. I don't have 1 week post-op visit...it's 3 week post-op which would be on the 13th, but he will be out of town then and can't see me until the 16th. I am going to try to see if I can get seen before then though...I don't know how much more I can take. I bit a piece of chicken and wanted to swallow so badly, but I was good...I spit it right out! Oh...and a tortilla too! I know...I'm so BAD! Sounds like you are getting some good results too! Good luck on reaching your goal...I've lost 28 lbs so far. Congrats on your 18!
