Started as a rash, now my incisions look infected!!

I had surg on 10/23, and I am very sensitive to tapes/bandaids etc. I started in the hospital with what looked like a very light minor skin irritation on my abdomen where it looked like they had put a drape or something. The day after I got home from the hospital, I woke up and it looked like a sunburn. Now, it's not as dark, but it is itchy, has gotten bigger (as in you can see a definite rash now) and now today I noticed that my incisions (ALL 5 OF THEM) have red puffy areas around them. I am starting to wonder if I was allergic to the adhesive they glued the incisions with, or if the rash is spreading or what?! Any suggestions???? But don't worry too much, I do see the doc in the morning, so I'm not going to the ER or calling the doc yet!! Thanks- JoAnne

Sounds like a tape allergy. You should call your doctor for instructions on how to safely remove the adhesive. You can probably just cover the incisions with bandaids. Elizabeth

Doc says "significant adhesive rash"- do nothing. Incision rashes they think are from the steristrips but I had already taken them off. The rash is a whole lot better now. She said to take benadryl if it bugs me, but it's not bad at all anymore. Thanks for asking! JoAnne
