My worst fear is coming to past.
Hello everyone,
I hope someone can identify with this and help me. I am little over 2 weeks post op. Last night I was eating some fillet fi**** was moist and very flaky. Well, I must have swallowed a piece too big. Suddenly I started to have severe pain in my chest. In a few minutes, I had to vomit. This went on for a few minutes. Everything came up the second go around. Then I felt fine. This morning, I started having my protein supplement. About 4 or 5 sips, I had to vomit again. I called my doc and he said to go back to clear liquids for the rest of the day and see how that was. If it didn't get any better to go to the ER in the morning. I waited a while and had a popcicle. Well, a few minutes, it came up. I waited a while and tried some hot chicken broth. So far it has been okay. It is possible that the piece was broken up enough by the hot broth to go on through? I hope so cause I don't want to go to the ER. Has anyone else gone through this? If so, what did you have to do. Right now I am okay. But I am scared to do anything. The vomitting was very painful. I don't ever want to do that again. Thanks for listening.

Hi Sherry...I am still on liquids only so I can't help you here. But if that happens again if I were you I would go to the ER and see whats wrong!!! Make sure you take your info on having the gastric by-pass so they can call your dr if its a hospital that doesn't do the WLS!!! You don't want them to hurt your new pouch!!!!
Good luck and keep us posted!!

Hi, I am almost two weeks post op. I know that everytime I do something that is an accident, my body allows me to know about it. I am a question machine. Having this urgery was an anxious and stressfull situation for me. I wanted it very much. This did not keep me from asking ??ss ad nauseum about everything. I would support the idea that you do some information gathering ASAP. I go to many different people/places so as not to annoy everyone all at once. One good source is the the Surgery Center where I had my procedure The nurses there are a plethora of information. But I get on the phone and keep going until someone tells me something valid ASAP.
I'm almost 4 weeks post op and I had a similar experience this weekend. I'm allowed to have 1/2 piece of wheat toast with my eggs, so I decided to give it a try. I must not have chewed the first bite of toast too well, because it immediately felt like it was stuck. I had terrible chest pains and began to vomit. I tried to drink something just to see if I could push the piece down and I began to vomit again. I called my surgeon and he basically said the same thing ... go to clear liquids for 24 hours and if it's not better go to the ER. So all day Saturday I kept trying liquids and each time I would vomit. I was starting to get a little scared. Well finally that night I drank some warm chicken broth and it went down fine. Later that night I was able to tolerate other clear liquids. And Sunday I was back to normal. I've gone back to really soft foods for a couple of days and I don't think I'll try toast again for quite some time.
If you still can't keep anything down, I would go to the ER. I was pretty close to going myself but luckily things were eventually able to stay down. But it's better to be safe than sorry.
Good luck!

I have had this for the past few weeks when I eat things...mine is the frothy sips, so they are telling me. The Dr's said I have over active Mucus cells in my new pouch and to drink warm/hot things first thing in the AM to help keep this down and if it gets bad to take some Benadryl which has been a life saver but I have had the same thing happen to me over the weekend. They also told me this for me may last 3 months...GREAT not what I wanted to hear but at least I know. I dread to eat now for the fact that it might come back up. I so know what you are talking about and I go into the office today and I will be bring this up to them.
Good Luck~

Hello,
My name is Michelle Allard and I was just looking around on your site and seen your post and thought that I would write some things down.
I had surgery 9/20/2005, and have lost a total of 159 pounds since surgery. Before surgery I was 298 pounds, now 139 pounds...
Here is my wisdom from the RNY perspective.
You need to be very careful what you take in during the first few months. If you get nauseated, try liquids for a day just what your doctor said. This surgery is a trial in error. Soon you will know what you can and cannot eat. I still am trying different foods and finding that out. I cannot eat chicken, fish and some potatoes, and chinese food really kills me. The doctor said that I may have trouble with these foods for the rest of my life. If you want to succeed you will have to "put up with it". I had trouble keeping things down about this time last year and the doctor said that I had an esophagas stricture and had to do an EGD to stretch me again. I haven't had trouble since. You may also have a stricture. You need to ask him about this. I have several friends who have had the RNY and have had to be stretched. They are also fine now.
Last year I was vomiting EVERYTHING that I tried to get down. After the procedure I felt wonderful. Thanksgiving I couldn't hold anything down, but at christmas I could eat...
Good luck on your weight loss journey. My journey is almost complete. I have 5 more pounds to go. But, it will be a journey that I have to keep a close watch on for the rest of my life. I don't want to gain any weight back.
Good Luck to everyone!
