Oct 2nd People Check In!!
Just popping on to see how we are all doing!! Its been almost 3 weeks since our big day. How are you recovering? How are you losing? How goes your protein intake? How goes your food and fluids intake? In general how the heck are you??
I am doing so much better now. Was a rough first couple of weeks but have made huge turn around since having my drain removed on the 13th. I am able to get about 32 oz to 48 oz of water down a day and doing well on mashed potatoes, yogurt, refried beans, gravy etc... Protein intake is sucking though since I am having a terrible time with the taste of anything sweet. But I did manage to start adding a Carnation Instant Breakfast to my day so that is helping me. Hope this sweet thing passes soon so I can start getting in way more protein then I am. Haven't made it back into my own bed yet. I am a tummy sleeper and due to my size it just kills to sleep on my side sooooooooo the LazyBoy has been my bed lol. Energy level is a bit low but that is to be expected. I go back to the surgeons on the 7th for my 1st check up and I cant wait. I hope to move on to the next phase of eating cuz this one sucks lol.
Anyways would love to hear how you all are doing.
*hugs*

I was doing great the first two weeks out . All of a sudden my stomach would cramp up everytime I would eat or drink anything, especially water. My mother had the stomach flu and I think I caught it. I don't have a stricture or anything. I'm finally feeling better. I still don't get alot of fluids and I can't do the protein drinks yet, because they are to heavy and my stomach is still alittle sensetive. One thing I have noticed is the smell of food nausiates me. I also can't eat foods twice in a row or else I lose the taste for it. I also can smell everything better foods perfumes etc... Everything is just to stong for my senses. I can't wait till all this passes.

Good Morning!!! And, HAPPY THREE WEEKS!!!!
Things are going well for me. Most days I get in my 64 oz. It was hard at first, but now I just drink all the time - except just before and just after meals.
So far, I've managed to get in my protein every day. The protein powder drinks are horrible....but today I made one into a shake with skim milk and just a little bit of banana and a couple cubes of ice. MERCY but it was good!!
I also put 1/2 to 3/4 scoop of chocolate protein powder into my 15 oz cup of decaf coffee and it helps it go down a little easier. Yes, it's thick on top and a bit yucky, but once you get that out of the way, it's a good way to enjoy your coffee and get your protein. I also discovered the Isopure protein drinks at GNC (the zero carb ones) and they are yummy. Well, some of them are.
OH!!! A good tip for getting in protein powder if you don't like the flavored ones....GNC has unflavored whey protein powder. You can add it to your foods and it doesn't change the taste too much. If you are eating something bland - like mashed potato or cream of wheat - I don't recommend adding more than 1/4 scoop. But, it's 5 g of protein, so it's worth it!
Another tip for keeping up with my daily intake is to keep a daily journal of everything I eat/drink all day long. It helps me to know if I need to bump up the protein or if I'm not getting enough fluids in. I also write down my vitamins so I know everyday that I have taken them. I also record my exercise (walking so far) and how I feel - particularly if it was a bad day or a really good day. OR if I ate something that didn't agree with me. (Only once so far!!!!)
All in all, this has been a marvelous experience for me. I still can't believe it when I step on the scales and it just keeps going down and down and down. What a wonderful feeling.
Sorry this was so long.

These last 3 weeks have gone really well for me. I took only a week off from work and have been back and going strong. I have lost about 22 lbs. I joined the gym Monday and feel pretty darn good. This week I can start eating soft solids but so far, the things I've had give me a lot of gas. Probably normal. What types of food are you eating now? I tried some chicken and green beans - chicken was kind of tough. My docs does not give us specific guidelines on amount of protein - he says I'll know when I'm not getting enough. It's different for each person. Drinking all my water is tough sometimes because I get full but I think that will improve in time.
I go back to doc tomorrow for checkup. I have no real complains. I feel very lucky!
Hi All,
I had surgery on Oct 2nd too! I am feeling much better now, just really tired, and it is hard to drag myself to work each day. I also have a one year old. My poor husband has been a saint as he has had to do a lot more (he helps a lot anyway).
He took one look at me this morning, and said, when you get home tonight, you are going right to bed, no cooking, cleaning etc. Thank goodness I have a house keeper twice a month.
Regarding the surgery itself, the first week was awful for me. I was regretting it the whole week.
I have finally started walking this week. Remarkable how much easier it is, once you have lost some weight.
My doctor believes in eating real food right away (soft food for a month). We aren't allowed to ever drink calories, it teaches bad habits. Right now I am living on cottage cheese, beans, egg whites, green beans, and the chunky parts of vegtables soups.
My biggest challenges so far is drinking enough water. I am so glad a thread was started for Oct 2nd people, I feel connected to you all already.
Take Care,
SG
