This is my first post. I had surgery 10/4. Little pain, no nausea, no problems. I supplemented my diet with protein before and after surgery, so my incisions are almost healed. I drink Special K protein water twice a day, each with 1 scoop of IsoFruit Delight powder mixed in (melon or pineapple). So each drink has about 30 grams of protein. They aren't thick or creamy like so many protein drinks. I also make jello out of profect or new whey liquid protein "tubes" and eat that as a snack. I eat lots of diet popsicles. I saw my surgeon today. He OK'd me to move up to fish, soft veggies, pretty much anything soft. I have zero appetite, and a few bites of anything pretty much fills me up. I'm walking daily, and have lost 26 pounds (including the prescribed diet before surgery). I'm returning to work Thursday (10/19). I feel great.

Hi Victoria, Sounds like you are doing great. I had RNY on Oct. 4th also and am still on my liquid diet. Next week I will be able to move up to fish and other soft foods like you. I wanted to go back to work part time this week but my boss says I need to get a note from my surgeon first. I am scheduled to be back on the 31st but if I can get the note I will go back tomorrow afternoon. Keep up the great work walking and drinking fluids and the weight will continue to fall off. good for you! tonight i'm going out with a friend to try a little fish. I've been pretty timid/cautious about advancing to the next food type so far. how long did it take you to decide to have rny?

I researched both the lap band and RNY for about a year. I was initially leaning towards the lap band but I decided that the RNY would be best for me because I tend to be a grazer might find it "eat through" the band. Also from all of the studies I looked at the RNY had a higher success rate. My insurance only covers the RNY, so that played a factor as well. Elizabeth

Good. I sit a lot at work, and I got tired after 7 hours. and my butt hurt, sitting so much. funny how I got out of the work habit so fast. are you having lap or rny? I didn't have much pain. I had to be helped up from sitting or from bed for a few days. my largest incision hurt most, up near my right chest/breast. I made sure to drink a lot of protein drinks (100+ grams a day) for weeks before, and after surgery. I healed very fast. Also I took a supplement (a B vitamin i think) called Biotin that is supposed to help keep yor hair from falling out. My surgery was 10/4, a wednesday. I napped and watched movies and ate popsicles and drank fruit juice and chicken broth through that Friday, then started walking 10 mins 3 times a day, and not napping. I was off wor****il the 19th, but I didn't need tylenol after 4 days, and I only took pain meds the first two nights, so I could sleep soundly. You'll do great. Are you dieting now? Just do what the doc asks, and you'll be fine. I'm excited for you. It didn't hurt as bad as I expected. I've never had kids or had surgery before, so I was scared. had no idea what to expect. you can email me at flavors2go @ gmail.com if you have other questions. Good luck!
