How sweet of you! How are YOU doing? Are you sleeping in a recliner? How is the "diet" going? How much water can you get down at a time? Are you walking? Sorry for all the questions, I am just alittle nervous. sincerely, Marti

Well, I missed your date by one, mine is October 25. Do you have to fast before, I am starting my liquid fast on wed, Oct 11 so tomorrow is my last food day. I am really excited to start the fast, because that means I only have two weeks left. Ann

I have to liquid fast, but I don't start until Oct. 17th. Let me know how it goes. I am a little nervous because I am on insulin and not sure how it is going to respond. I go to the hospital for my pre-op testing on Oct 16 and pre- op physical. As if we haven't had enough tests. But right now I am sick with a cold and an abscessed tooth and on penicillin and my blood sugars are through the roof for no particular reason, so I am glad I don't have to start my liquid diet on Wed. Good luck. Marti

Hi Mari Welcome to the Oct. 2006 board! While on liquids you will need to test your bg a lot, like every couple of hours so stock up on strips. Will I was on liquids I dropped my basal or background insulin significantly and really didn't need to take any extra for meals. What kind of insulin do you take? You will need to work closely with your endo during this phase. Elizabeth

Thanks. He says to probably cut back about 30%. I try to keep my calories at 1500 to 1700 a day. The Dietician said to get a liquid protein that had about an equal amount of protein and carbohydrates because that is my only nourishment. I got some from a health food store that has "complex carbohydrates" instead of sugar. I thought that might help. I usually do my blood sugar about 5-6 times a day because I am so "brittle". I take about 80 units of N and about 80-90 units of R as a total throughout the day. Some days like right now I am taking more because I am sick and of course my BS's are way up. Elizabeth, I am still wondering. Did they give you insulin during surgery? Sincerely, Marti

For my surgery, I wore my insulin pump which continuously gives me insulin. So, the hospital staff did not give me insulin. My pump was giving me insulin. While you are on the liquid pre-op diet your surgeon and endo will get an idea of how much insulin you will need during surgery. Elizabeth

Elizabeth, I am sorry to be so stupid about your pump but how does it know what your blood sugar is? How does it know how much to give you? Marti
