Time is flying by so fast. I will be very busy next week with all the pre op appointments. Is anyone out there having surgery at Careplex in Hampton, VA? I have been reading all the books I can get my hands on about WLS. It is so amazing to look at before and after pictures of other WLS people. WOW! I have been working out 3 times a week to get into a routine. I am even trying to remember to chew my food 25 times before swallowing. That's a lot of chewing.....

I am having my surgery at Norfolk General on the 18th. I know how you feel it is exciting and overwhelming at the same time!

Me either...I'm having surgery on the same day as you!!!...but down here in New Orleans. You're ahead of me...guess I have to start practicing chewing now I have been doing some shopping for clear liquids and making some homemade chicken broth to freezer though. I'm still far enough out from surgery that I continued to worry that something will interfere and it will not happen, but hopefully I will get over that as my date gets closer. Good luck with your surgery! Angela

Diane, My surgery date is October 23rd, also. I am so excited.... and a little nervous. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on too. Going to get Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies this weeekend. Keep up the workouts and the chewing... I've been doing that too and it's amazing how long it takes to chew food 25 times! I must have always inhaled my food before. My preops aren't until the 19th, so I am using this extra time to get organized. Hope all goes well with your surgery and that your recovery is complication free! Keep in touch! debbie

Debbie, Let me know how you like the book. I am finishing "Weight Loss Surgery, Is It for You". I recommend it. It talks about what to expect right before you go to the operating room, during surgery, and after surgery - plus tons more interesting stuff. I am up to 75 crunches a day. My goal is to get to 100 before my surgery. I got that big blue ball - exercise ball and use that to do them. This morning I tried Vanilla Instant Carnation Breakfast ( I am alergic to chocolate) - I used 2% milk - which is what I usually drink - IT WAS YUCK! - guess I will need to try strawberry. Glad I tried it now instead of when I got home from the surgery. Good luck with your surgery and keep me posted. Diane

Diane, I am soooo impressed with your crunches!!! I know you'll reach your 100 goal if you're up to 75 today. I never even thought of doing crunches.... I've been on the treadmill for about 45 minutes every day... sometimes more if i have enough time. I think I ordered "Weight Loss Surgery, Is It for You" I work at Barnes & Noble (part time, second job) but haven't been there for two weeks. Hopefully when I go in Saturday the two books I ordered (can't remember the second one) will be waiting for me. I have tried Isopure Vanilla and the Isopure Liquid fruit punch. Not to bad as protein stuff goes. Tried strawberry-kiwi nectar. Taste was ok but smell and after-taste were awful. Have heard that tastes change dramatically after surgery, so trying not to make firm judgements! lol! Take care... thanks for the crunch inspiration and go for 100!!!! Keep me posted, too! debbie

Debbie, My good friend who had WLS by the same office is my inspiration. She is helping me with my workouts. She actually used a professional trainer before her surgery. She is sharing all her knowledge with me and I want to pass that on to others. That is so cool that you work at Barnes & Noble. One of my favorite stores. They ordered two more books for me and they should be in soon. I will try the Isopure... Where did you get it from? I don't have a treadmill, instead I have the Gazelle. I LOVE IT! I also use the ellitical and do some exercises with 5lb weights. Someone at work just told me yesterday that I look "toner" WOW! I guess it is working. But the scale remains the same. LOL. Diane

I got the Isopure at GNC. Might have gotten it cheaper if I had shopped websites, but it was so handy to just walk in and talk to someone..... what is the Gazelle? I use 2 pound weights... hyper extended my elbow not too long ago, so I am erring on the side of caution at this point. I'm going to try the crunches starting tonight.... Maybe I can get up to 10 before surgery. LOL What kind of vitamins has your friend had the most success with. That is the biggest ? on my list so far. Have a good day! debbie

Debbie - I take Viactive Calicum, B12 and a multiviatim (pill right now). My friend takes Flinestone viatiams, B12, Viactive, and Hair/Skins/Nails (from GNC) pill. She said that the hair/skin/Nail pill helped her with her hair loss. I am waiting for it to go on sale. GNC said it would go on sale sometime in the next two weeks. You can do the crunches. I bet you can get to 25 before surgery. Do 12 in the am and 13 at night to start. I started with 10 about 3 weeks ago. YOU CAN DO IT!! The Gazelle is like a glider - it is by Tony Little - guy with the pony tail on TV. You can get it at Sports Authority. Check it out on line - just search "Gazelle". It doesn't hurt my knees. It is like running or walking without the pounding on the feet. It is easy to use. My husband even uses it now. LOL. Not that he needs to - but he exercises to keep fit. My main concern is after the surgery and having to sip water and eat small portions and chew 25 times before swallowing. That is not easy. I love to drin**** Tea (unsweet) with my meals. NEW RULES after surgery.... no drinking 30 minutes before eating, no drinking during meals, and waiting 1 hour after meals to drink - will be SO hard for me. Your WLS Loser buddy, Diane
