Oct 9th Surgery may be cancelled

After all this time waiting...preparing (mentally and physically) I have caught a cold and may have to cancel my surgery. My surgery is in 8 days!!!! About 4 days ago I woke up with a sore throat which lasted 2 days, then I started sneezing and now I am coughing. I have had no fever though which is good i guess. I have been loading up on Vitamin C hoping that will help, I didnt want to take any meds b/c I was so close to surgery. I meet with my doctor this thursday (Oct 5th) to sign consent forms if i dont get any better he may cancel my surgery Does anyone have any advice?

Amy A chest cold is nothing to fool around with when it comes to going under. A complication of general anesthesia is pneumonia, or fluid in the lungs. Please listen to your body honestly and let your Dr. help you decide. I would hate to see you with unnecessary complication a few days out from surgery. My advice is given with love and not meant to be harsh. I know how badly we want that day to come. We have the same surgery date. I'm afraid my daughter will bring home some bug from school right now. The one thing that I can suggest for a cold is Zinc. It comes in a hard candy form or a nose spray. I think it is called Zicam?? It claims to shorten the duration of a cold. Good Luck and keep intouch. Jennifer

Call your surgeon. I was told that if I got a cold a week before to give them a call and they could give me something to head it off. There is still plenty of time. Dawn

Ack! Take a bath or shower and breathe in lots of steam. Go to bed. Drink lots of fluids. Talk it over with the surgeon. Chances are good you will be better by then! You still have a good solid week! Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sweet T

Can you take Zicam? It is a homeopathic over the counter medicine that shortens colds. Any time I feel the sniffles coming on I take one and I am good to go. Elizabeth

Dont Worry~ My surgery got cancelled 3 days before I was suppose to start my liquid diet. It was of no fault of my own, my doctor is Jewish and Yom Kuppordecided it was his turn. I was devastated. I cried and cried. I thought is this meant to be, should I go pig out. I was depressed. After a day or two I realized its okay I am strong. Then and only then did I realize how much I wanted this surgery and when the time was right it would happen. On the dayof this discovery my date was change to October 9, 2006. Granted it was a weeks difference but it made all the difference in the world. Take this advice from a nurse...If you are sick and try go through this surgery you will have complications. Your breathing impaired your body just isnt functioning. The whole point of this surgery is to make you healthy but if your baody isnt at its baseline before surgery how do you expect it to be okay after surgery.....
