My Rebirth Date: October 26, 2006
Hi
I'm new to the site. I've read some very moving stories here and just decided to join up. My surgery is scheduled for 10/26! I'm thrilled! Having survived the awful wait for insurance approval, the rest has got to be a breeze!
I've told my family and friends about it...my colleagues just wonder why I suddenly break into big smiles without warning :-D
Nice to be here...best to everyone...
Lisa
Hi Kelly,
I've got one week left on my job, as the company is moving it to another location. I've known about it for awhile and my severence package includes health insurance continuation, so I'll be ok that way. But I imagine I'll be going crazy counting down to Oct 26! :angst:
I've made a list though, everything I have to do to get ready. And I still have my specialists appointments and nutrition class yet.
I'm diabetic, type 2, diagnosed in late 2004. I hate diabetes with such a passion; it killed my brother - that was 11 years ago. I've hated diabetes since then. At the hospital support group, I asked all of the post-op diabetics how they are doing now. The response from type 2s, basically, was, "what diabetes?" None of them have any symptoms; all have stopped taking meds.
I think I'm immune to any scare-talk about the surgery because not a single risk or complications frightens me like those of diabetes.
Do you still have docs to see yet? Where are you having surgery? Do you have a detailed 'to do' list, or is that just a bit of craziness I've inherited from my mom?
Thanks for writing!
Lisa
Yay Lisa
It will be to have your diabetes cured after wls.
I am seeing my surgeon Dr Bessell this coming Fri so he can check up on my progress to see if I am going to be committed in this journey. He would like me to lose about 5-6kg ,I think I have lost about 3 or 4kg or so, he did say that he had a patient who put on weight and he then cancelled her op!! Thats why the last week or so I have been on a strict low carb, low fat diet.
I am having my RNY @ Wakefield Calvary Private Hospital in Adelaide.
To do lists are a great idea, especially for ppl like me who forget things lol
I am about to do one very soon.
Regards
Kelly
I hope your appointment went well, Kelly. Your surgeon cancelling that other patient sounds really harsh and scary.
My surgeon wants me to lose 15 pounds before surgery, but, as always, I just keep going up and down by five. I was happy as I seemed to be losing, but then I gained again. But when I saw my family doc, she pointed out that I was swollen with water weight, which I had not noticed. I'm taking Lasix now for that.
About to do lists...the last item on mine is "make new to do list" Hey, it works for me...
