Topic: Please, can anyone answer a few questions for me?
I had my Open RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery on October 12th, 2005, weighed 338 pounds, and since then, I have lost only 75 pounds. I am 5' 3" and now I weigh 263 pounds, is that normal or not? What was your highest weight before surgery and how much weight have each of you lost in 9 months? How tall are each of you? What type of procedure did each of you have? I need to know if the weight that I have lost is good enough or if not, what else can I do to lose even more weight? I have been taking my vitamins every day, eating right, drinking plenty of water, exercising also, and I make sure I get plenty of rest when needed. I would appreciate any feedback that any of you can provide to help me understand this WLS.
Topic: Gym is open (Thursday)
Okay, I'm picking up the torch since Keke hasn't been with us for a little while. I, for one, appreciate the reminder about how good daily exercise is for us. So I'll try to post a daily reminder to keep us moving.
My plan for my Wednesday workout: 35 minutes on the elliptical trainer at the gym after work, plus 45 minutes of water aerobics at an outdoor pool (weather permitting). If it's raining, I'll bump up the time on the elliptical trainer to 45 minutes.
Are you moving to lose today? Or just to tone up that body? If so, let us know!

I went for my 9 month post op appointment this morning and met with the dietician....
I am doing great in every way and her recommendation was to relax and enjoy my good health.
I will go back for my next appointment on my 1 year date, which is October 10th!!
I also went to the Surgery Support group last night to get support from local people who have had the surgery....it is great to have that kind of support from people who understand and have been there, done that!

Ann,
Thanks for your comments. It's great that we're all going about our lives, doing what we want and able to enjoy ourselves. But it's also nice to have our OH community that understands where we've come from, where we are and where we hope to go. We understand each other in ways that even the most supportive friends cannot, because we've all been through such similar experiences. I, for one, truly value the people here and wanted them to know that!
Best of luck on your continuing journey -

I appreciate the words of wisdom and support.....I am working very hard on being grateful for the opportunity to get and stay healthy....
Back in 1999 I had to have a pacemaker put in and since that time, I have had to have it replaced twice....I have had many surgeries and complications over the past 6 years and am now healthier that I have ever been....
It is easy to get stuck on a number that doesn't mean as much as what it means to be healthy....
this is a great place to get my head put back on strait....

Kellie,
Thanks for this post, I think we needed it. I agree that we are all going on with our lives, but we also share something that "no one else" can understand. What I mean by that is the timing of it. I am a lurker and have noticed that there are patterns as I watch with both plateus and losses. I am doing well. I feel successful and my doc feels that I am a success and my bmi still is at obese. He said that the continued weight loss and the loss of 117#'s is what makes it a success. I love reading about how you are all doing. thanks Ann

I think the weight loss has slowed down or stalled for a lot of us, especially folks that started out as "lightweights" (no offense intended). You'll probably feel a lot better if you can learn to relax and enjoy your newfound health!
Remember, life is a journey, not a destination. What would be so different about you if you weighed 136 pounds intead of 143? Would it change who you are? Probably not... And I suspect the people who love you think you're lookin' mighty fine at 143 pounds. So work on letting go of the numbers and embracing your new self!
