WOW! It sounds like you are doing great so far,You have odviosly been sticking to the program and know what you should be doing. I have had a lot of times when my weight flucuates as much as 4-5 lb. just look at what you are doing and veri the scedual a little may be more or a differant exercise. Less snacking or healthier snacks. Sometimes our body just needs to ajustand will flucuate. Good luck. Deb 392/237/225

Topic: RE: Hypoglycemia
Hi! I actually have a lot of information on this. In the last 5 months I have experienced hypoglycemic episodes about 2-4 times a month, but I drop down into the 40s! It is an AWFUL feeling. I have yet to see my blood sugar above 80. I am NOT diabetic either, nor have I ever been. I am a nurse so I had used some of my resources, talked to my surgeon and PMD, and what it comes down to is this: Following gastric bypass surgery, hypoglycemic episodes in people who typically weren't diabetic are usually caused by a lack of protein (or could be a cause in people who were diabetic too). Now I get at least 70mg of protein a day, but admit that there are times I don't get enough. I notice that when my blood sugar does drop and I look back on what I have eaten that day either it wasn't anything with a lot of protein or it had been a loooong time since I had eaten. My surgeon said that when he first encountered post-surgicals with this problem, he was sending them to an endocrinologist *****ally wasn't finding anything wrong. My PMD agreed with this. Both said to up my protein and see if it made a difference. If I up my protein and am consistent with getting it in, no problems, if I don't well... I started carrying glucose tablets with me as well as a protein bar in case it happens when I am out and about and can't get anything to eat/drink quick. Don't know if this info helps, but this is what I have learned from my experience and some research! Sarah

I get shaky when I haven't eaten or have burned everything up exercising--I battle this problem by eating more frequently. I know some programs mandate eating 3 meals per day, but I cannot do this. I eat more like 5-6 times per day and my doc is fine with it. He's says whatever I'm doing is working just fine for me, so stick to it. So, if you can eat more often without worrying you are gaining--I suggest eating small meals more frequently to keep your blood sugar levels from bottoming out. Or at least carrying some peanut butter sandwich crackers or a Profect protein drink in your purse to eat as soon as you feel shakiness coming on.... Good luck! -Laura -115 lbs, at goal 5'11, 168 lbs, size 8 and darn proud of it!
