Late check in time...
Sorry about this late check in time...but we need to do our 6 month check in....:
How much did you weight before surgery, current weight, goal weight? What do you eat on a daily basis...how many meals...small, large...how much are you eating? how much are you drinking? do you dump? and what do you dump on? anything else you want to add, go for it...
My turn... 285, 222, 185...I can eat anything and everything...try not to eat a lot of carbs, stay away from pasta and rice...I am eating quite a bit I think...can finish a small hamburger with no bun....a little veggie...can eat a 1/2 sandwich...if it is small...if it is large...makes two meals out of it.. I take all my vitamins, my wife does that for me...and drink a lot of water 75-90 oz......don't dump on anything...but sometimes feel icky if I eat sweets...ok...next person step up to the plate please.... Dennis
Hi Dennis -
I started at 323, am now 220, my goal is 150. I've been stuck here for a LONG time. Thought it was moving again this last week, but I've stalled again!! I really need to watch my salt intake!
I eat what seems like a lot some days and not enough other days. I can eat a small hamburger (no bun, etc) or 3 oz of chicken (only if VERY moist). I do get my vitamins in (most of the time). My labs were good for this month.
I need to get in more water and exercise.
Dumping... I guess I dump when I have something "carby". I get REALLY sleepy, like prop my eyelids open with toothpicks, sleepy.
I miss chocolate ice cream with chocolate syrup, but a SF fudgecicle helps with that.
Thanks for starting this post!
mary
I was 227 preop, I'm 141 today, my surgeon's goal is 140 and my goal is 130, so I'm almost there! Started at a tight size 18 and today I'm wearing size 6 jeans, so I couldnt be happier!! I eat oatmeal every morning, leftovers for lunch and usually chicken or beef for dinner, plus veggies. I have carbs sometimes, but I dont want them too often. I have "snacks" during the day- applesauce or peanuts, something like that. I feel like I eat a lot, but I really dont. I take all my vitamins plus 3 different rx for allergies, so I'm popping pills all day long! I dont drink lots of water, but I do have LOTS of SF green tea, so I'm ok with that. I tried working out at home, but with a toddler it was too much, so all the exercise I get on a normal basis is chasing 3 kids around. I havent dumped in a while, thank goodness, but if I have any dairy I'm out for hours, it makes me SICK! I have sweets once in a while- I had fun with those teensy candy bars at Easter time, the ones that are just one bite each. I dont overdo it, and I havent wanted more than that in a day so far, so again, I'm not worried about it.
Glad to hear you're doing ok!!
Rebecca
Thanks, Heather! Try not to worry too much, I think everyone stalls out at some point, but keep at it and it'll start up again! My weight loss has slowed WAY down, I average a pound or two a week now, so I know when your plateau breaks you'll zoom right into your 140s!! Have you thought about trying one of the plateau buster "diets" that have been mentioned on here? I dont remember exactly what's on them, but they seem to be great and I know others have had a lot of success with them! With you exercising like you are I know it's just a matter of time, just focus on the positives and keep doing what you're doing, you're going to do great!!!
Rebecca
Hi Dennis and everyone!
Since Surgery I've lost 100 lbs so I'm 45 lbs away from my goal at the moment.
Breakfast is usually an AcheivOne Protein Drink or a piece of cheese and 3 oz of wheat cereal. On occasion I'll have one whole wheat waffle or pancake with sugar free syrup. Not big on stuff that tastes sweet though, so I don't do it much!
Lunch varies from a turkey hot dog with some baked beans (no bread) to some soup or some kind of microwave mini bowl of whatever I'm in the mood for and can find on hand! (I hate to cook, so I do a lot of convenience foods!) Dinner is about the same. I can eat anywhere from 4- 8 oz at lunch and at dinner. Sometimes I'll have one or two snacks a day: 1/2 of an Atkins protein bar (I love the Carmel Peanut Nougat ones with only 3 grams of sugar) or some nuts, cheese, things like that. Bread doesn't really interest me so I pretty much avoid it.
My biggest weakness is the sugar free Iced Latte Light from Dunkin Donuts and I admit lately I've gotten it with the mocha swirl which DOES add sugar, but I drink it slowly and it doesn't bother me! So, no I don't dump on sugar, but if I eat too much of it too quick, it gives me a bad tummy ache!
I still try to use my elliptical as much as possible and get to the gym when I can (hard with the kids) but now that the weather is so beautiful in NY I'm out at the park with the kids all weekend, jumping, walking and climbing like a kid!!
LIFE IS GOOD!
HUGS,
Vi
I guess it is my turn now.
I started at 304, am at 204 and I really am not sure what my goal is. I wanted to fit into a size 18 and I do that now, but I am not ready to stop and I still have plenty to loose. I just haven't been anything less than that since college. So I am just going to take the ride and see where I end up.
I am a really boring eater
Breakfast is always a protein shake (easy and I'll "eat"it)
Lunch is almost always cheese sticks (3) wrapped in 2 oz of turkey, I can eat 1-2 oz's of veggies
Often a snack at around 4 is a protein ball
supper varies only a little chicken of some kind or more often than not it is noodleless lasagna
night time - I have an enormous amount of meds to take at night and it works better w/ applesauce so I mix in a 4oz vanilla yogurt (dannon light abd fit)
I get all drugs but not always 2 calciums in
66-75 oz water
exercise is difficult right now becase my multiple sclerosis leaves me exhausted after working all day.
I can tolerate sweets - darn it. I am learning how to be more than reasonable about limits now.
I have never dumped thank god but I try new things very slowly. Tonight for the first time I had a half a tortilla shell - and it is the first realy carb I have had since surgery.
ok now that I put you all to sleep: I want to wish everyone happy loosing for month 7. Ann
I started at 251, my scale says I am 159 now, my docs scale said 156 yesterday, though, so somewhere around there, my goal is 130. I haven't really had an eating schedule lately. Been on the go alot and probably eating things I shouldn't. Weight loss has slowed, and I know why. I try to have a half packet of weight control oatmeal for breakfast. Chicken or tuna salad for lunch. I make it with salsa and light sour cream and cheese and put it over lettuce. Dinner lately has been whatever I can get my hands on. I try to measure my meals when I can and try not to eat more than 4 oz at a time. I usually have 5 meals a day. Don't dump on anything. I do get all my protein and water every day. I exercise every day. Today I ran 5.25 miles, plus had a quarter mile warm up and cool down. It took 64 minutes and burned 860 calories. I take all my vitamins. My B12 was high again this time around and I found out that I was only supposed to be taking one a day (I was taking two). Doc said I may even be able to go to one every other day. Anyway, I have 30 lbs or so left to lose and hope to do that in the next 6 months. So, I will be happy with a 5 lb. loss per month from here on out. Take Care!
Marcia
Hi Dennis on the day of my surgery my weight was 296. 6 months before surgery I was at 311. Today I weigh 186. My surgeons goal is 170 my goal is 150. I still do unjury protein shake for preakfast. I usually have a yogurt about 10 am. Lunch I eat soup and a piece of cheese. Supper varies a lot. I can not eat bread or pasta. Just doesn't feel good. I still get food stuck if I don't pay attention. I have no appetite. I work out 3 days a week at Curves and I walk a very hard walk but I have found I can jog a mile. Hope to build that up. Curves is getting really easy. Weight. loss seems steady. I lose a pound every day for a week and then stahl for 10 days. I have done that a lot. No regrets. I never have dumped and I can eat sugar but I don't pu**** My gallblader is going bad so I am looking at surgery. That is probably what makes me have no appetite because I stay nausiated when I eat.

Hey Dennis, here's my 6-month recap,
I weighed 240 before surgery. I weigh 149 (9 pounds from goal) I start my day with a Profect because eating is still quite difficult for me when I wake up, but I can drink one of those without too much trauma. I only like one flavor, the Cool Melon Splash, but that's okay. I have chicken or shrimp as my main meat sources. I can have finely ground beef in Del Taco's Combo Cup and I can eat about half of one of those at a sitting, somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 cup.
I have eaten pasta and rice. White rice doesn't work at all, so I stay away. I can't eat tortillas or soft bread. That stuff sits like a lump in my chest and I have to yack it back up -- no more of that for me.
Yes, I dump, but I've only dumped once - I intend to keep it that way. I'm possessed about reading labels now. Lesson learned. Sugar is the devil.
I tend to eat every few hours during the day, or have a hot drink. I get hungry about 9 and eat a Low Sugar oatmeal (about half of it) or a whole 4 ounce Carb and Sugar Conscious yogurt.
Snack: I can eat 2 soy crisps and be happy with that. My afternoon snack at work is usually a protein shake and maybe some nuts. I stay away from SF sweets because sugar alcohols make me sick. I get a migraine from them. I have had Splenda sweetened treats every once in a while, though.
I go to the base gym 3 days a week for exercise class. It's different every day, one day step aerobics, another day weight training - I'm lovin it. Who knew I'd look forward to exercise?
Drinking enough is still a challenge for me. I'm sure I don't get more than 24 ounces in actual water, but I have the 2 proteins a day and some decaf coffee. I still have one cup of high test coffee in the morning with SF Vanilla Coffee Mate.
I'm moving next week. A week from today, I'll be up in Northern California, in Eureka. Life has been crazy, has thrown us a few curve balls - but we're okay with the move. Joe's mother is ill with Alzheimer's and breast cancer and they need us up there to help. I've already got a job up there with Humboldt County and I start May 22. I'm a little crazy with busy-ness but I'm hangin'...
Well, that's my story! I'm in size 10s and 8s and feeling great. I look pretty good, too. I fit into a size small shirt yesterday, a serious Wow. This is the best thing I've ever done for myself and every day is a blessing...
