Hmmm.... Anybody else????
Hi! I had surgery on Oct 13th. I do fine with meats and eggs too. I haven't really had bread, just wheat toast once. I did have a couple bites of quesadilla tonight and was nervous about the tortilla but it was fine. I have only had rice a couple of times but really just a couple tiny bites, and pasta only once. I'm a big chicken so I'm not too adventerous. I've only had a couple of bites of salad - another thing I'm kinda scared of! I think that at about this point I'm feeling pretty good about trying new things, more confident of my new tummy and it's MOODS lol!!! I'm so used to this new way of life that it seems completely normal to me. I have no apprehension if I eat in a restaurant anymore. I look at someone eating a huge plate of food and wonder how in the world the can eat so much!!!
For your question about what to work into the diet now - I'd recommend Dame Tooter's website. I think it's bariatricbytes.com. Maybe go on the graduates board and ask some of the "old timers". LOL. Have you seen a nutritionist since the surgery? My friend still sees the nutritionist about every 6-8 weeks and she's 9 months out! I think it's just for reassurance that she's "doing it right".
Well good luck to you!! You are doing great! Carol

I do okay with meats and salads. I still have a an awful time with rice and spaghetti. I'm okay with other pastas though. Bread kind of depends on the day. I'm able to eat almost anything without a problem. I have not tried and will not try anything with over 10 grams of sugar (my surgeon's limit). I also feel pretty bad if I eat anything too fatty. I guess we're all still adjusting and determining what we can handle.

I had surgery on Oct 4th and I can eat pretty much everything. I eat wheat toast maybe once a month, wheat bagels, every couple of weeks. I love salad, tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, I even can eat broccoli! My girlfriend who is 2 years out still can't eat broccoli. I eat a lot of chicken, and ground beef, pork does well, ham is so, so. I don't eat much pasta, but it doesn't bother me, I stay away from rice pretty much, the swelling part messes with my mind, so all in all, I'm pretty pleased.
Hi surgery buddy! I can't do anything other than a very very tender strip steak. I can't do chicken very well unless it is extremely moist. I just got to where I can handle salads. I still can't eat very much at one time of anything.
I will dump on greasy or fatty stuff way before I will on sugar! Even some salad dressing is enough to make me dump! I can do spaghetti, but no other pasta. I can do wild rice or vermicelli like rice a roni.
I can eat beef jerky though & I eat the Jack Link nuggets. They are soft enough for me to chew real well.
Good luck to you! We are right about the same place, I've lost 82 pounds.

Hi Sheryl,
Gosh, I guess I'm lucky, I can eat almost anything. It's been that way since quite early on, I haven't had the same kinds of tolerance issues that other people tend to report. I'm not sure why - I've always had a "steel stomach", never bothered by nausea, and that seems to have endured post-surgery.
In the past month, I've maybe had 3 times when I felt like something didn't agree with me; I just stop eating as soon as I realize it, sip water, and try to take it easy at the next meal, stick with softer foods. But I'm able to eat rice, pasta, bread. The trick is to not eat them alone; eat in combination with other foods. A bowl of plain rice is the only thing that has actually caused me to vomit.
Good luck! I hope you continue to be able to eat a broader range of healthy foods soon!
Sheryl
