Certain hormones are stored in fatty tissue. As we lose weight (and fat), those hormones are released into our system. So it can interfere with your normal cycle, affect your moods, etc. My cycle has been affected, but I haven't noticed too much in terms of mood changes. Suspect that it depends on your physiology.
If it's a significant problem for you, I'd suggest talking to your surgeon and/or your OB/GYN. Since my issues have been manageable, I haven't needed to do that, but suspect that they may be able to help.
Good luck working it out -

Hi Kim
Since the surgery my periods are all messed up,but I was so obese they were never normal then either. My family says i'm moody and *****y. I think due to the malabsorption my zoloft, ativan, and wellbutrin are not working. My pain medications dont seem to work either. I have a bad back so i'm in intense pain. So I sure would like to know how you get your meds to work. If you find out anything please let me know.

I'M OLDER SOOOOO ... BUT, I HAD NORMAL PERIODS IN NOV, DEC & JAN & HAVEN'T HAD ONE SINCE ... NOT SURE IF THAT'S SURGERY RELATED OR POSSIBLY MENOPAUSE RELATED.
AS FOR THE MOODS ... OH MY GOSH ... THERE FOR A WHILE I WAS *****Y, CRYING & SOOOOOOOOO DEPRESSED - LIKE PISSY & "LEAVE ME ALONE" MOODS ... I WAS READY TO GO BACK TO MY PRIMARY DOC FOR ANTI-DEPRESSANTS BUT THEN, THE MOODS JUST LIFTED & I'M BACK TO MY (SWEET ) OL' SELF. THINK IT'S THE LARGE AMOUNT OF HORMONE RELEASES CAUSED BY OUR RAPID WEIGHT LOSS. I HAVE AN ARTICLE ON IT IN MY PROFILE, BUT SEEMS TO BE NORMAL, MS KIM.
