Vickie, You are looking great! Forget what the other people say, they probably have never been fat in thier life. Only someone who has struggled with their weight can know how truly difficult it is lose it and keep it off! Keep up the good work and enjoy the positives. All the things you mentioned, riding your bike, running, just being healthy! Mary 323/231.5/150

I get that reaction a lot from people who are heavy. It's jealousy I guess. It makes me mad too. I don't care what they think. I've already been on a gazillion diets and I've worked hard before the surgery and after the surgery. I've made the best decision for me. How anyone else manages their weight is their business and this is my business. I'd never presume to tell anyone that the diet they are on is probably not going to work and if it does they will gain the weight back anyway. I don't know why people feel they have the right to give me their very uninformed opinions about my surgery.

I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE THINKS & WHY SHOULD YOU, MS VICKIE? YOU KNOW YOU MADE THE ABSOLUTE BEST DECISION FOR YOUR LIFE & THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS ... I TELL EVERYONE, EVEN STRANGERS, ABOUT WLS ... I DON'T BACK AWAY FROM ANYONE NOR DO I ALLOW ANYONE TO LIMIT ME OR WHAT I DO OR SAY JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE JUDGMENTAL. IT'S LIKE I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT A PARALEGIC GOES THROUGH IN THEIR LIVES, SO NON-OBESE PEOPLE CAN'T REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT WE WENT THROUGH OR WHY WE TOOK SUCH DRASTIC MEASURES ... OR, WHY WE "CAN'T JUST DIET" TO LOSE THE WEIGHT. HEY, I COULD LOSE WEIGHT ANYTIME; I JUST COULDN'T KEEP IT OFF, THUS I'D REGAIN & EVEN MORE. SO, DON'T GIVE UP ON SPREADING THE GOOD WORD ABOUT WLS FOR THE SAKE OF THAT ONE PERSON *****ALLY NEEDS THE INFORMATION. WHEN SOMEONE GETS JUDGMENTAL, JUST RAISE YOUR HAND TO STOP THEM &, WITHOUT BEING MEAN, FLAT TELL THEM THAT YOU WERE DYING FROM ALL THE MEDICAL ISSUES, SO THIS WAS DEFINITELY THE VERY BEST DECISION FOR YOU & YOU DON'T WISH TO HEAR ANYTHING NEGATIVE BECAUSE YOU KNOW IT SAVED YOUR VERY LIFE. THEN ... CHANGE THE SUBJECT. WORKS EVERY TIME. BE ASSERTIVE WITHOUT BEING MEAN. SET THE BOUNDARIES OF WHAT YOU WILL ALLOW TO BE SAID TO YOU ... &, KEEP SHARING THE WLS NEWS FOR THOSE WHO CARE & MAY NEED HELP! GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK

What you just said on that post is exactly what I would say to them. I am honest about it and daggone proud of what I have finally done for myself and you should be as well. It doesn't matter what people say, it is all about how you feel. There are always going to be ignorant people and unfortunately we will have to face them. Be proud and very proud!!!!!!!!

Vickie, I don't care what some people say, they can be rude. I told all my family, friends and coworkers. They were all supportive. My mom at 1st didn't like the idea of me having the surgery, she said I should have tried weigh****chers. I said I did. I didn't lose anything and I want to have wls. She is happy and grateful that I had it as I am feeling better. I haven't run into the problem yet of anyone saying I had what and that they wouldn't have it. Most people don't understand that this can be lifesaving and help lots of us. Some want to lose it the old fashined way, dieting and exercising. I say to anyone who had surgery or loses weight anyway, good for them. If someone did say to me that I shouldn't have had it I would say to them, _ _ _ k off and I don't give a _ _ _ t. Most everyone though that I have encountered have been supportive and happy I did have wls. Don't let what others say get you down. They are probably jealous as you are looking great and they don't. Keep up the great work, you are doing great and look great. Don't let this 1 thing get you down. As we said here in Boston 2yrs ago as my beloved Red Sox were in the World Series before winning. KEEP THE FAITH. Love, Lisa J in MASS

Vickie, I am with you, when I am asked how I lost weight. I tell them. I would usually get the same reaction or it would a real short Oh as if they were sticking their nose down at me and in their eyes taking the easy way out. So my response now is usually, I had weight loss surgery in October and it was the best decision of my life. What the reaction boils down to is the ignorance that many people have towards the obese person. I think the mentality that obese people is nothing more than some lazy gluten person doing nothing but sitting watching tv and stuffing their face. When in reality that is the farthest from the truth. Pretty much everyone that I have come across so far have been active adults finding it hard to lose weight with every failed diet under the sun. Deciding to do the WLS is a tough decision but one that we all made to better our lives and our health. Please don't let the ignorant get you upset. It truely is not worth it. I usually take those opportunities and turn it around to educate the ignorant. If they still choose to be ignorant, they are simply just rude, agree to disagree and move on. It is frustrating to get those responses and reactions continuously but keep your head up, stay strong and continue your wonderful progress. And you never know, there may even be a bit of jealousy in those reactions because you had the courage to take control and are succeeding. Stay strong! =) Kelli
