Okay-- I was told by my surgeons office NOT to drink thru straws but I cannot stand when I go to a restaurant and I have to drink directly from the cup! It drives me insane but I wanted to know how many of you all actually still drink from straws and if so...does it affect you at all? finda nessy

I am a big straw drinker! I also heard it was because you could get too much air and liquid at once. But I do it and I do just fine. GOOD LUCK!

I have heard the no straws thing but I use a straw sometimes when I drink and have never had a problem. I find it actually helps me control how much I drink. If I were to drink directly from a cup then I would tend to gulp which we all know not suppose to do that. Straws I don't think should be a problem. Kelli

I waited until about 4 months out and then asked my Doctor who said it was finde that it can cause too much air early on, but the further out you are the safer it is. I find that I drink more when I use a straw and it doesn't bother me.

There is no time for drinking at restaurants, if we aren't supposed to drink when we eat. I don't even bother to get a drink when I go out. Marcia

I agree with Marcia. I was told no straws and no drinking while eating. I just don't do it. Jane 296/201/150 goal

I've done it a few times without thinking, and I've paid the price with a lot of pain in my stomach. My doc said not to do it because it will fill you up with air and cause pain. I've never heard about it causing any damage to the pouch though. Carol

I asked my surgeon about this too since I learned at Weigh****chers that you can drink more volume with a straw (I need all the help I can get!!) He told me that I could try it cautiously and if I had any pain or discomfort to stop immediately. I've never had any trouble using a straw as long as I'm careful not to gulp air before putting it in my mouth, so I use them all the time. Also, I do order water with lemon at restaurants to "water load" prior to eating. I don't drink once my food arrives. (my doc's rules state I can drink up until eating and wait 1 hour after)
