I want to take off another 40 pounds? will it happen...we are approaching the 6 month..and I understand it really slows down...so have I stopped? ...I am walking 3-4 times a week over 3 miles...rideing a bike...hiking in the mountains...eating my protein...drinking my water...and taking my meds...please tell me this is not the end? I am a scale ***** Dennis

I can't say whether it's the end, but I doubt it. I had a stall that seemed like it would never end. My nutritionist suggested dropping all carbs and fruits from my diet for a week or so, just sticking to protein and veggies. I also had to take a break from exercising for about a week because of an unrelated medical issue. When I went back to working out (elliptical trainer 40 minutes 4-5x per week, plus lifting weights 2x per week), I started losing again. I think our body gets accustomed to a particular amount of calories and exerise, then tries to stabilize there. If we keep mixing things up with our routines, our body can't stabilize because it doesn't know what to expect. Anyway, those are just my thoughts - obviously not an expert here, just talking about what I think. Good luck getting past your stall - I'm sure you'll make it! Kellie

Dennis, I am right there with you. I have lost 80 lbs so far and have been stuck losing and gaining the same 1/2 a pound for the last two weeks! I've gone back to the basics... protein and protein and even some more protein! My doctor also said he sees his patients plateau if they add in carbs and fruit. He said to save those until I hit my goal. Well, thats 90 pounds still to go. I'm tracking what I eat on fitday.com. I'm also going to the gym tonight. Need to do something to get things moving again! Oh... I'm also a scale ***** I weigh at least daily, sometimes 2-3 times. Hang in there, Mary 323/240/150

Hey Dennis...my name is Gina & I'm a reformed scale *****! I only weigh on Mondays now! I upped my calories & added protein snacks & broke my month and a half plateau! Already lost 3 pounds! Okay, so I weighed Saturday, I've been ***** busted!! I am forcing myself to eat high protein snacks like beef jerky nuggets, almonds, boilked eggs, cheese, etc. Also read this on another board & know it has worked for many. The only different version I've seen is no peanut butter (too high in fat) or yogurt (goes right through pouch): I'll post it as a topic as well! How to break a plateau #1 - Do this for 10 days to break a plateau #2 - Drink 2 quarts of water a day #3 - You must have 45 grams of protein supplement and all your vitamins/minerals supplements each day #4 - You may consume up to 3 oz of the following high protein foods, 5x a day beef pork chicken turkey lamb fish eggs low fat cheese cottage cheese plain yogurt or artificially sweetened peanut butter beans/legumes You may also have: sugar free popsicles tea or coffee sugar free soda sugar free jello broths/boullion crystal light drinks #5 - If it's not on the list, you can't have it for 10 days!!!! I don't have any great suggestions, but I will challenge you for the title of slowest loser - down exactly 50 this morning! (63 including my 3-week pre-op diet) At least the scale is moving again - I just had a 2 week stall that freaked me out. I think slow losers should be exempt from stalls so we can catch up! I went to a support group meeting yesterday and they say it is good for you to plateau...as your body is playing catch up ...take your measurements and make sure you are losing inches...I am...I notice you don't have to much more weight to lose...so you are half way there.......and it will slow down when it gets into the lower numbers...so hang in there...we will do this...it takes between 12-15 months to lose all the weight...not 6 months...so hang in there...and maybe it is better to lose slower...so our bodies can catch up...we can do this...
