Depression???.....
I think I am starting to get depressed latly. I cry all the time. I am always tired. I don't want to get out of bed, but have to. I am very moody. I don't want to go "HANG OUT" or anything.
I am already on welbutrin to quite smoking, But you would think I would not get depression if I was on that.
What should I do???

Hi Erin,
Have I told you lately how fantastic you look? Well you do
I have bipolar disorder that goes mostly to the depressive side. I was on Wellbutrin for a while and it actually made things worse. I became extremely irritable and the depression got a lot deeper. I've known of others who used it to quit smoking and had similar problems. For some people its a Godsend, and for others like me, it's really not a good thing. You may want to talk to your doc about it and see what he thinks. Best wishes, and I hope you'll be feeling better soon.

Erin,
I took the welbutrin to quit smoking with no problems, but my sister - in-law got very depressed and had a lot of problems from it. You really should speak with your GP or surgeon. If they are not comfortable with this see a shrink. If you saw one for preop clearance and was comfortable with him/her maybe you can follow up with them. It may all be from the welbutrin, but an experienced person needs to make that decision. Take care and good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Oh, Erin I took Wellbutrin to stop smoking and Depression too and it made me crazy! It was one day at the pharmacy when I took the time to read all the side effects when I realized the drug was causing the problem. I had great success with Paxil and Lexapro. Please check with your Dr on stopping the Rx as that process cold turkey can make you completely insane.
Best wishes in the process

I THINK YOU'RE DOING FANTASTIC (WE ALLLL ARE!) FOR ALL YOUR POOR BODY HAS BEEN THROUGH ... MAJOR SURGERY, YOUR DIGESTIVE SYSTEM HAS BEEN REROUTED & HAD TO ADJUST TO THAT ... YOU'RE EATING WHAT? - A QUARTER TO A THIRD OF WHAT YOUR BODY USED TO BE FED ... YOU'RE NO LONGER ON SUGAR AS AN ENERGY SOURCE ... YOU JUST HAD A MAJOR BOUT WITH KIDNEY STONES & YOU QUIT SMOKING WHICH CAN BE AS HARD ON YOUR BODY AS GETTING OFF SOME STREET DRUGS, SO YOUR BODY JUST WENT THROUGH WITHDRAWAL TWICE - SUGAR & CIGS.
AS FOR MOOD SWINGS ... WHEN ANYONE, INCLUDING MEN, LOSE A LOT OF WEIGHT REALLY FAST, YOUR HORMONES GO INTO A TIZZY ... MAJOR PMS SYNDROME. A LOT OF MY WLS FRIENDS (ME INCLUDED) HAVE HAD ALL SORTS OF MOOD SWINGS FOR "NO REASON" THAT WE CANNOT CONTROL. DOC SAYS THIS IS "NORMAL" FOR WLS PATIENTS.
I'M RIGHT THERE WITH YOU ABOUT ALWAYS BEING TIRED ... I THINK I COULD SLEEP 20 HOURS A DAY & STILL BE EXHAUSTED. I JUST WENT TO THE DOC YESTERDAY ABOUT IT & THE ANSWER IS "HE DOESN'T KNOW WHY" ... WITH ALL WE'VE BEEN THROUGH THESE LAST 4 OR 5 MONTHS, IT COULD BE A COMBINATION OF A ZILLION THINGS.
SO, THE POINT IS ... YOUR CONDITION SOUNDS "NORMAL" FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE BEEN THROUGH.
AS FOR WELBUTRIN ... I WAS ON IT & THEN LEXAPRO AS AN APPETITE SUPPRESSENT & I DID MUCH BETTER ON THE LEXAPRO. MY FRIEND'S HUSBAND IS ON WELBUTRIN TO HELP HIM KICK HIS CRACK HABIT, SO THAT TELLS ME THAT WELBUTRIN IS VERY, VERY POWERFUL ... MAYBE IT'S JUST NOT THE RIGHT MEDICATION FOR YOU.
CHIN UP SWEETIE ... YOU'RE HANDLING A LOT OF CHANGES ALL AT ONCE ... WITH ALL THAT, YOU'RE DOING GREAT!
GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK
Hi Erin!
I have to tell you that after reading all the responses, I dont feel so alone right now. I have also been on meds for depression for about 9 years and was on Lexapro until last week. I have pretty much fallen out of life all together. I do not want to go anywhere, see anyone let alone be around anyone. I too have been on a cry binge and canno****ch certain things on tv without getting water eyed! They switched me back to Prozac as I was on that years ago and so far I have to say that I have a tad more energy but still lack any want to do anything. It was so bad I didnt even want to come to this site! I didnt check my emails for days. I still see myself as an obese waste at this point and as of yesterday I am down 100 pounds. I just dont see one pound off. I know that this is all an adjustment on my body but I feel I am losing my soul!
I was on Wellbutrin as well as knowing friends who were on it and it actually made them violent. And I mean violent! I just got very sick and couldnt take it so I was lucky for not getting the violent part. There are so many good meds out there to help maybe you just need a change in meds or dosing.
Ok..I know I was of NO help and after reading my sob story you are really depressed...*LOL*
I really hope that you find what is right for you. We all so much deserve to find our happiness, even if it is assisted in the form of a tablet.
All the best to you!
Barb
IT'S REALLY HARD FOR A LOT OF US TO "SEE" OURSELVES SMALLER. I AM BLESSED WITH A VERY ATTENTIVE HUSBAND WHO TELLS ME EVERY LITTLE IMPROVEMENT HE SEES & THEN I RUN TO THE MIRROR & "HMMMM, I DO LOOK SMALLER THERE".
ONE OF THE BEST WAYS FOR ME WAS WHEN I TOOK MY 50 # LOSS COMPARISON PICTURES. I'M WAITING FOR 75 #s TO DISAPPEAR UNTIL I TAKE MY NEXT PICTURES FOR COMPARISON.
IT'S A LOT EASIER TO SEE THE IMPROVEMENTS WITH PICTURES RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. WITH 100 #s GONE, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE A TREMENDOUS IMPROVEMENT. EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO POST THEM ON YOUR PROFILE (WHICH WE WOULD ALL LOVE FOR YOU TO SHARE WITH US) TAKE SOME PICTURES NOW & COMPARE THEM WITH YOUR HEAVIER PICTURES ... THEN TELL US WHAT DIFFERENCES YOU SEE.
A LOT OF THE DEPRESSION IS CAUSED FROM YOUR FANTASTIC WEIGHT LOSS. YOUR HORMONES ARE GOING CRAZY ... FOR SOME REASON, WHEN A PERSON LOSES A LOT OF WEIGHT REAL FAST, IT EFFECTS THE HORMONES ... JUST LIKE PMS ... MOOD SWINGS ... DEPRESSION ... A LOT OF US ARE HAVING THIS.
SO, PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE ... THIS TOO SHALL PASS ... YOU'VE DONE SUCH A GREAT THING FOR YOURSELF ... TRY YOUR VERY BEST TO ENJOY THE JOURNEY & BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!
GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK
