Medical Problem Arose!
Well on February 17th I finally passed a Kidney stone that took 15 days to pass.
I had to get it examined and also I had to do a 48 hour urine the weekend of the 25th.
Last Thursday I received a call at work to find out that my labs were abnormal and I must be seen ASAP for treatment option.
I went in Last Friday and the urologist told me that my Oxalate levels and Calcium levels are way to high in my urine. So now I have to take medication for the rest of my life to keep these levels in my blood rather then them going into my kidneys and causing stones.
Well the medication he gave me is a diuretic. As you all now, it is hard enough to get all your water in, let alone take a pill that makes you pee non stop.
So this kind of sucks because I really feel dehydrated now!!! But on the good side, I woke up this morning weighing in at 200.6. Any day now I will be in "onderland"!!!

The pain must have been AWFUL! Did the doctor say that the calcium you're taking to stay healthy is forming your kidney stones?
It sounds like you're peeing your life away. Are you on city water or well water? Our well water has so much alkali in it that I won't drink it at all. We use filtered water out of the refrigerator.
So, do you keep drinking the amount you were drinking? I know he wants you to keep your system flushed. Is more water better?
I sure ask a lot of questions, don't I?

Hi Cheryl,
I have always had kidney stones. I do not take any extra calcium. I was born producing too much oxalate and calcium. My mother and Grandfather both have a major history of kidney stones. I got that gene as well.
I don't drink tap water...yuck!!!...lol. I drink bottled water.
I have to take this medication the rest of my life in order to not get kidney stones. It sucks, but not as bad as a kidney stone sucks!!...lol
It is a prescribed medication used for kidney stones and heart problems. It just happens to be a diuretic as well. Oh well.

JUST KEEP A GOOD EYE ON YOUR CONDITION, MS ERIN. DOES YOUR UROLOGIST UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF YOUR GASTRIC BYPASS ISSUES? BE CAREFUL WITH THOSE DIURETICS & IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY, BE SURE TO CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR. HAVE YOU SPOKEN WITH YOUR GASTRIC BYPASS SURGEON ABOUT THE DIURETICS? YOU MIGHT WANT TO JUST TO FIND OUT WHAT SYMPTOMS YOU NEED TO LOOK FOR SO YOU CAN STAY HEALTHY.
WE'RE SURE GLAD YOU FOUND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS!
GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK
Erin,
Sorry to hear about your problems, but at least with it being in your family you kown what is up with this. I would jus****ch the fluids though. If you start to get signs of dehydration maybe he can lower the dosage. Or maybe there is another form of the same pill without the diuretic. Don't be afraid to explain your situation and see if there are other alternatives.
Keep us posted hope all goes well.

Oh my gosh Erin! I have been fighting with the same kidney stone since last Thursday. I'm scared to go to the doctor..I know what they will do..keep me and pump me full of fluids and send me home minus $100/copay. I have had a bad history of these damned things and this I think has to be my third one (most painful) since surgery. Mine too are made up of the Calcium Oxalate. grrrrrrr. I don't know what to do??!! I hate doctors and I'm stubborn lol. I know what causes mine...not enough plain old water
Good luck with your situation..I hope all goes well for you
And oh yes....You will be at "onderland" this week YAY
You need to see the Urologist ASAP!!! Your Oxalate and Calcium levels will tend to rise after WLS. You need to go. The emergancy room will only you give you pain medicine and do a C.A.T. scane. If you are in terriable pain, I suggest going there, letting them get the pain under control and have them write you out an R.X. for pain. Then make an appointment at the Urologist and have him run a 24 hour urine on you. You don't want to keep messing with them!

Let me know how you make out. I am scared for you cause I know how bad they hurt!
