53 lbs lost-Average or below?
Hi,
I had my RNY Oct 17th, followed by a revision due to a blood clot Oct 27th.. To date, I have lost 53 lbs.. Is this good?
I started at 256, now at 203..
Bad thing is, I can eat almost anything.. =( I do not dump at all.. I really hold back on anything sugary and if I have anything, it's a tiny bit.
I average about 1/2 cup food each meal, more if it's soup or something.
Does this sound pretty average?
Crystal,
Don't compare yourself to others...there will always be people who lose more weight than you and people who lose less weight than you...it is not a contest. You've lost 53 pounds that you will never see again....that is friggin awesome!
Remember, WLS is only a tool. You have to work at it and even though you can does not mean you should. We can always revert to old habits and destroy the progress we've made it is up to you.
Congrats on the loss, i am sure you are feeling GREAT.
Good Luck
Mike
It's probably a little on the low-ish side, but everyone is so different. I had my surgery two weeks after you and have lost 47.5, so feel free to compare yourself to me! It was really hard for me to see people who started at lower weights than me fly by me with their weight loss, especially when I am doing everything right. It's gotten easier in the last month or so because I am very consistent with my loss and that's something that I can live with. It seems that the faster you lose, the longer stalls you might experience around this time. I've never stayed at the same weight for more than 3 or 4 days and losing slower has kept my hair on my head as well. Just my personal thoughts. Over 50 is a great and successful number no matter how you look at it! As far as your amounts, it seems very normal.

You need to look at it in terms of how much you had to lose and not how much you've lost in comparison to anyone else!
There are people here who needed to lose over 200 lbs who are down 100 lbs already. I needed to lose 150 and have lost 80, but I started out slow and suddenly had a really good month.
No matter where we are, we all get there eventually. I also still can't eat much and when I try, I have no real desire for food, so that affects my weight loss a lot! However, I don't dump either and I still love chocolate!
Prior to surgery I had lost about 80 lbs and kept most it off for 5 years plus I was already exercising for a few years.
We're all different, and we can't really expect to lose the way someone else does. I know it's hard, believe me!! I do it all the time but I finally decided that my journey needs to be as unique as I am.
What matters is that you stay focused and you will get to where you need to be!!

Vi
Hi, I started at 243 and now at 194 so I'm roughly about the same as you. I also don't dump and I seem to be able to eat more than I would think I should --at least in the evenings. but I am slowly but surely headed down and I am learning to make good food choices and drink lots of water so I am encouraged that I will get to goal. You are doing very good and I bet you are feeling the relief of not carrying that 50 some pounds around. You are almost in onderland!
Oh my gosh Chrystal, I have been wondering what happend to you! I was really following your story on the TMB, but lost you all of a sudden. I live in Wills Point & have family in Gilmer, Gladewater & Spring Hill (Longview), so I feel a connection to your area! My sister-in-law used to live in Latch & her kids went to BS Schools.
I think you are doing wonderful considering all the problems you had girl!! You were one day ahead of me. I have lost more, BUT, I also had a stricture at 5 weeks and was unable to eat or drink almost anything for almost a week! I lost A LOT during that time!! I only lost 2 pounds this month, been struggling with the same 4 over & over again!! I hqave found that by upping my calorie intake some I am starting to loose again. Plus, always remember to measure yourself!! I did loose 8.5" this month & even though it wasn't the 14" I lost the month before, it made me feel better about the 2 pounds!
Don't beat yourself up or compare yourself with others! Hide the scales & break out the measuring tape if it helps you!!

Hello. I think your doing great! Like one of the other posts had said...you really can't compare because everyone loses differenly. You may only have lost 53 lbs to date, but...the inches are coming off too. I had my surgery on Oct 5th and I have lost 79 pounds to date. I went from a size 22 jean and a 22/24 top down to a size 12 jean and large top. I can eat things with surgar in it, but prefer not to. I like using the substitutes instead. I can eat a small cup of soup from a convience store for lunch. I can drink coffee-decaf 20oz and feel fine a few times a day. I have slacked on water which isnt good, but I do drink tea and juices w/out surgar in them throughout the day. I think your doing wonderful and don't get discourged! The inches are coming off!!! Good luck! Renee
Make that 54 lbs! I lost another last night! I've went from a sz 22 pant to sz 16 pant and on the shirts, to be honest, I'm still big up top so haven't gotten any new ones yet.. Possibly a 2x to a 1x.. Just bought a gazelle the other day, need to get my butt in gear exercising, I work in an ER so I've adjusted to walking alot just on a normal day! It's hard when you compare yourselves to others and it makes it seem like it's not alot but heck how many other times with any other "diet" or such can you say you've lost 54 lbs in 4 months? I never could! =)
