Question
Oh, my, don't worry in advance..... Just go ahead with your life, and be watchful of any unusual problems you have, like pain or vomiting. Also, use common sense with things like lifting heavy objects, and strenuous exercise. Some people are unfortunately going to get hernias, but it's not automatic. If you have ANYTHING unusual, of course, contact your surgeon ASAP. But, don't fret, there are a lot of people who DON'T get hernias!!

I think it is a bit funny. My surgeon said a lot of his patients try to get hernias or at least hope for one at 1 year out. Usually by then they have lost most or all of their excess weight and they can schedule a tummy tuck at the same time as the hernia operation.
I'm not sure if it is common or not. I know my surgeon always checks for them though.
