Anyone else here losing this slowly??
I've lost a grand total of 42 lbs. Started at 272, am now 230. Yes, I'm glad that much is gone. Yes, it's going off slowly and everyone says that's the better way to lose. But then I see others who are at 70, 80 even 100 lb wt loss by now.
All my blood work came back okay. I was due to go for my 3 mos check up last wk and had to change the appt, so didn't go yet.
I know one of the reasons for me is hormonal because I no longer have a thyroid gland, so I did expect it to be slightly slower, but geez. It seems since I started exercising regularly about a month ago, I keep bouncing the last 2 lbs back and forth. My BMI is about 40, started at about 50.
A friend of mine had her surgery two days after me. She was about 30 lbs heavier than me. She has lost 60 lbs so far, but her BMI is at 60. So I figure she's losing muscle and at least I must be losing fat, but my clothes still seem about the same as last month.
I'm perplexed about this and ready to go back to strictly liquids for 10 dys and see what happens. Most of the days, I do get all my water and protein requirements. I've been strick on the protein. I don't know what else to do?
Finally! Someone right there with me (not that it might make you feel any better about your loss, but I like not feeling so alone among the October surgeries)! I am totally in the same boat. I had surgery a few days after you did and am down 42.5 as of this morning - 261 to 218.5. I'm young and in good health, except for my weight and high cholesterol, so I thought I'd cruise right along.
Before surgery I used that weight planner graph on this site and it was projected that I would lose about 40-50 in the first 2 months. What a letdown that has been. I won't let myself compare myself to anyone or any chart anymore because I'm just different somehow. I'm still trying not to mentally freak out at my monthly support group when I hear people say tell me that they have lost twice what I have "and I don't even exercise", they say. Grrrr.
My doc and nutritionist aren't worried, so that makes me feel better. There is a woman in my support group who lost slowly - she said about 3 pounds a week on average - and she was at goal within a year. I can make peace with being slow as long as it is fairly consistent. I haven't experienced a stall (if you can call it that) longer than 4 days, and my monthly totals have stayed very stable - between 9-12 pounds a month. I haven't noticed any hair loss either, which the nutritionist told me might be the case being a slow loser. You've gotta take consolation in what you can!
I just make sure to get all my water, vitamins and protein. It's not too hard for me, because I have been lucky that my stomach must be made of iron. I haven't gotten sick yet - but haven't pushed the limits with large portions or sugar, either. As long as I am eating within the guidelines and being healthy, I can deal. I'm sure from a medical standpoint, it is better to lose a little slower, so I just have to remind myself of all the good stuff like that.
Keep on plugging along - it sounds like you are doing everything right, and you are not alone!

I'm right up there with you...had my surgery 10/27...the first month the weight dropped off but in December it started slowing down and I only lose MAYBE 10 lbs a month...I guess it's better, maybe the skin sagging won't be so bad...and I know I didn't put it on overnight so it's not going to come off overnight...but I'm sick of looking at it lol. So no your not alone. I haven't exercised yet which I need to get my butt to the gym to do...but if you exercise you have to remember muscle weighs more than fat....
