Ok, I'm clueless ... I keep seeing people saying they use an "elliptical trainer" ... What is that?

Hmmm how do you describe an ellipitcal? I guess the closest is sort of like cross country skiing. let's start with the feet first, you stand up on 2 pedals. These pedals simulate the motion of running, but your feet never leave contact with the pedals (low impact on knees, etc)...then the arms....your arms have 2 "poles" that move forward and backwards (similar to cross country skiing). My machine has different intensities, you can increase the resistance and also it inclines giving you a hill to climb... Hope this helps On Saturday I changed up....I did 60 minutes on the recumbant bike and then it was full body weights, biceps, triceps, legs, chest, back and crunches. MIke

I also do 45 minutes on the eliptical. I'm at level 11 now. I go 4-5 times a week. I do weight training 3 times a week but I mostly focus on my upper body. I think doing the elipticle on that high a level will take care of my lower body. So far it's made a hugh difference in my weight loss!!

Hi Mike, I try to get to the gym everyday and was being faithful to that until I fell on ice (darn the weather in NY!!!) and banged up my knee pretty bad! I was doing the weights (upper and lower body circuit) 3 times a week and the elliptical and the treadmill on the other days. For the past two weeks though, I've only been doing the weights (only upper body****il my knee completely heals. I had an MRI on it yesterday and I'm hoping to find out next week that everything is ok with the darn knee! I think it's great that you walk up the stairs! I'm in a building with only 2 floors at work, so I'll take the stairs but it's only one flight.
