Restaurant card????
Has anyone tried to use one before??? Last night I tried to use mine at a buffet and the lady all but laughed in my face... I tried to explain to her that my stomach could only hold 1/4 cup of food and she said that as my problem. I was so mad !!!!! I told my husband I was going up and fill five plates and put them on our table just to waste the food. I did not want my meal for free I just want some kinda discount becasue I know there was NO way I ate $15.00 worth of food.
I guess she is right it is my problem but I was still very mad.....

Misty,
I just love your name, it's very nice......
I can understand how you feel, none of us can eat the amount we used to, either at home or out, and when were out, it becomes more difficult, however my surgeon has come up with a plan of sorts -- his assistant will write out a letter for his patients upon request, on hospital letter head, stating that this patient blah blah blah, has restricted food intake abilities therefore he/she will need to order from the childrens menu, or be given smaller portions from the main menu....
From what I understand it works like a charm, I met a woman in the waiting room the last time I was at the clinic and she told me all about it, and showed me her letter, I thought that was a neat idea, so this month when I go in for my 3 mos. check up, I'm going to get one, as Spring and Summer approach eating out will be something that will become more apparent for me, as a matter of fact I'm going out of town this month and next month, and of course will be faced with the same problems you have had, but armed with that letter from my surgeon, I think I'll be okay.....
Anyway try to see if your doc! will give you a letter like that, hopefully that works for you.....
Have a great day....
I have used it on occasion but it really depends on the server. Some of them are really nice about it after they read the card explaining that we can only eat a small amount of food and some of them are just plain snotty. I know how you feel about the anger. One waitress also made me really mad once, she wouldn't even read the card and I finally asked her to show it to the manager. She brought it back and said the manager said, "whatever". Yeah like the manager said that, she was probably just upset that the manager approved it.
It's up to the discretion of the restaurant if they will honor it or not, and most do. But if they reject it no problem I just order a cup of soup and eat a small portion from my husbands plate.
You should have asked to speak to the manager, she sounded like an unpleasant person. I've noticed that there are alot of people out there who are uneducated about this surgery. I can now understand what handicapped people go through in a way as far as the way some people just don't care what your problem is and will not accomodate you or work with you. Oh well, like I said though, some people are really nice about it.

IT WAS VERY UNKIND & GREEDY OF HER TO TREAT YOU IN THAT MANNER. SOME BUFFETS ALSO HAVE A MENU ... IF SO, YOU CAN ORDER SOMETHING SMALL OFF OF IT. BUT, MOST BUFFET RESTUARANTS WILL NOT HONOR OUR WLS CARD OR ALLOW US A DISCOUNT ... JUST THE NATURE OF THE BEAST, MS MISTY.
AT OTHER RESTUARANTS, I NO LONGER ORDER A DRINK ... MAYBE TAKE A SIP FROM MY HUSBAND'S GLASS. I ORDER AN APPETIZER, CHILD'S PLATE OR JUST A SIDE DISH & HAVE NO PROBLEM. OF COURSE, WE'VE BEEN EATING AT MOST OF THESE RESTUARANTS FOR YEARS. SOME THAT WE DON'T EAT AT OFTEN ... ONCE I EXPLAIN ABOUT THE SURGERY, ARE MOST ACCOMODATING.
GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK
Hi Misty. I just go to the buffet and pay the 6, 10 or 25dlls depending on the buffet I go to. I figure, if I hadn't had the surgery I would of paid it happily anyhow so what's the difference. I fill my plate with about ateaspoon of everything I used to eat before, and try to eat as much as I can. Mostly it's just a little bit. But I feel good just being at the places I used to go, and acting as normal as can be. I used to pay the full price willingly and I still do, cause I figure now it feels so good to not have to walk a lot of times to fill my plate, I feel healthier. But that waitress was rude. I just order something small or get food from my boyfirend at normal restaurants.
