HOW ARE YOU GUYS DOING IT????
I have been reading post after post about getting in protein etc. and MANY of you are getting in 70 -100 grams a day. I am in pure shock and envy! I posted a question yesterday about cals./ carbs and protein because I was not sure how much I needed. I got some great replys (thanx by the way ) and the I went to fit day.com last night and plugged in my food and got my numbers back....drum roll....
Calories= 618
Fat= 24
carbs= 34
prot= 50
and THAT was hard!!
I seem to have a lack of desire for food. I mean I love to get my plate all fixed up the way I want it but then after I sit down to eat it... blah! I don't really want any. 2-3 bites and I am done. Anybody else experiencing lack of desire to eat that is NOT sick. Obviously if you are puking your guts like i did for 2.5 monthd, you DO NOT want to eat.
Advice? Suggestions? Repremands? LOL
help?
Sallykate
Sallykate..
I get in more than a 100 grams of protein a day...I drink most days two protein drinks to help with that....are you open to protein drinks or are you trying to get all protein from food?
I also do not want to eat but I make myself eat because I know that I did not have this surgery to lose weight and to not be healthy....so I force myself and am slowly finding things again that I do enjoy....it is a lot of work and requires a lot of planning for me....
What does a typical day of food look like for you?
Jenn
I think maybe part of the issue is, even though I am 3 months post op I have only began eating about 3 weeks ago because I was so sick I couldn't. I have felt like a brand new post-op, learning to chew and eat slowly etc. I sorta missed that phase from the get go since I could not eat or drink.
my food intake today but i don't call this typical:
BF- 5 oz protein drink
lunch- 2oz chicken breast with 1tsp. SF spag. sauce and about 2 tsp shredded parm. 2tsp of baked tater with cheese, one flower top of broccoli
dinner- (we had company) 3 bites of chicken fried rice each bite had a peice of chk breast, 2 bites of salad.
snack- 1/4 c of fried rice (mostly chicken)
about 40oz of liquids... not a good liquid day for me but something I work on daily anyways.
I had no desire to eat whether I was puking or not, but I started doing 3 shakes a day when it got really bad. Now I'm getting tired of the shakes again and only doing 1 or 2 a day. It's hard, but you have to work at it. Like Jenn said, we didn't do this surgery to NOT be healthy so I guess we have to do our part. BTW, the desire to eat will return and from what I've read on other boards, we'll wish to be back in the time when we couldn't eat because then the REAL work and the REAL struggles to keep the weight OFF begin!
If you need a good kick in the ass (like I did a few weeks ago when I was feeling sorry for myself), read this:

Hiya Violet,
I do not at all think that I am feeling sorry for myself... on the contrary, I am posting to learn how to improve. As a matter of fact, my nut said I was doing fine the way I am but I researched and read to find out that I need to eat more.
Maybe I should also clarify what I mean about "not wanting to eat". It is more than just lack of desire. I actually feel full when I eat my 3-5 bites and therefore want no more.
I exercise daily. I was stuck in a wheelchair before surgery and started walking at 10 days out for exercise, I am walking a mile a day now and doing aerobic exercise combined with my walk. Last night, I realized that I had let the whole day go by w/o exercising and decided I was not gonna just say "oh well, I'll do it tomorrow", so at 12am I was in my living room while the whole house was asleep doing my walk away the pounds DVD!
I read the article you mentioned last week. It is GREAT! I love it!
Thanx for the advice and encouragement... you always have great input to share!

Hi Sally, I think it's great that you are taking advantage of your "new found" energy now that you have lost so much weight. I hope you didn't think I was implying that you were feeling sorry for yourself! I was talking about ME! *I* was feeling sorry for myself a few weeks ago because I was puking every other day and I didn't want to drink protein shakes, but I read that article and it was a good kick in the ass for me. My attitude changed immediately!
I also have a hard time eating and can only do a bite or two before I don't want more, but the past week it's been getting easier, so I do believe that this phase will pass soon!
Hey there again Miss Violet,
I was not at all upset with your post. It got me to analyzing myself and I was kinda answering out loud with my analysis LOL! Thank the Lord I am NOT puking at all anymore so I have MUCH to be thankkful for. Matter of fact, it has been about 3 weeks since I started eating again and I still say thank-you to God at night before bed that I am drinking and eating on my own. ha!
Your advice has been great! I feel better knowing that others like you struggle with food desire. I am not alone...
You know after I read so many replies to this post from others having little desire to eat it made me realize something...
We were so used to "loving" food and our lives revolved around it so much pre-op that we ate hungry or not. Needed or not. Now we are having to work it out in our heads that you do not have to have a "speacial craving" in order to eat or a big "to do" meal to want to eat. We just need to eat because food sustains us, helps us be healthy, gives us energy and vitamins etc. What a NEW and strange way to view food and eating! LOL It's kind of boring! No wonder we really do not care to eat anymore. It does not "seem" nearly as fun anymore. I am working on changing my perceptions of what "fun" eating is. Pigging out on all my faves vs. treating my body the way it should be so that it will live much longer and run more smoothly. In order to do that, I may just have to FORCE myself to consume my protein drinks and daily meals just as before I had to FORCE myself away from the table when I was trying to watch what I ate if I was dieting.
What a ramble! Sorry so long...
have a great day,
Sallykate
NOW, THAT IS A GREAT LETTER, MS VI. YUP, WE NEED A "KICK IN THE BACKSIDE", DON'T WE?!? IT IS SO EASY TO LOSE SIGHT OF THE FACT THAT WE WERE EACH DYING DAILY BECAUSE WE WERE SO OVERWEIGHT. NOW THAT WE'RE FEELING BETTER & SEEING WEIGHT LOSSES LIKE WE'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE, IT'S EASY TO GET LAXED & LAZY IN OUR FLUIDS, PROTEINS & SUPPLEMENTS. THANKS FOR THE LINK. IT HELPED!
GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK
I get most of my protein from protein drinks, as I really cannot eat alot (still). Without them, I would be at about 500 cals and 30 grams of protein.
I use the Nectar Fuzzy Naval. For me they are pretty good, and I tolerate it well. I have 2 of them a day, plus an IsoPure in the am w/ milk. I have the Nectar as if it was water.
But, I personally have found that for me, as soon as I increased my protein, my weight started coming off again (after a 17 day up/down/up/down bounce of 1 pound).
