Am I average compared to you?
Elaine,
My mom and you are very similar. She had her surgery at age 58. July 04 and she started at 269. at 18 months out she weighs 155 and is still losing about 5 pounds a month. She does NO exercise. She says her body isnt very pretty without clothes. I think she lost slower because of her age and no exercise. She still did great. Hang in there girlie!
Elaine
My weight day of surgery 275
number of pounds to lose = 145
Age 53
exercise regularly- yes walking and exercise bike
average weekly weight loss= 2 3 lbs now was closer to five the first two months
Height 5' 2"
lost to date 67
remember the more you have to loose the faster you loose in the begining and the more you move even just walking the faster you will loose.
The surgery only helps us lose about 60 % of our excess weight after that we must diet and exercise like everyone else. You have lost 45 % of your excess weight in three months, that is exceptional. Looking at the numbers looks like I lost a lot more than you...however I have only lost 46% of my excess weight just 1% more than you. And my surgery was two weeks before you. So compared to me we are running neck and neck.
Keep up the good work and move some more you'll feel better.

Mary..I started at 285...currect weight is 238...want to get down to 180...so how do you do the math...I am on a slow trek also...not sure about the losing 60 percent then we have to do it ourelves...My body needs approx. 2001.00 calories to maintain the weight at this point...anything under that I will lose...the last two months I have averaged about 9 pounds...If I keep that up...I will lose the rest in about 4 or 5 months....but I think the last twenty pounds I will have to diet...I am getting in about 1000 to 1300 calories a day...some less....keep up the good work...take care...Dennis
Dennis,
I took your starting weight 285 and subtracted your goal weight of 180 for a total of 105 lbs to loose. To date you have lost 47 lbs. I know there is a proper way to do the math but I just figure you are not at 50% yet, so I go from there. Multiplied 105 times 45% which is equal to 47.25 lbs. So you have lost 45% of your excess weight. I can not figure my daily calorie needs as easy as you. I have a very slow metabolism, and as I take in less my metabolism seems to slow down. I got the 60% figure from my surgeon and from the nutritionalist I go to. According to them the surgery is designed to help us loose 60% of our excess weight. I was told after that we still eat less at one time but must continue to diet to loose. I like to think that anything I loose past the 60 % I have worked for. Once I get that 60% gone there is a sense of pride in working hard to get to my goal. Keep up the good work.

Hi Elaine,
I'm 57 and I think I am losing at about the same rate as you.
started at 243 (actually 251 until I did my pre-op liquids for 5 days)
Today I am at 201.
I am fairly active but don't yet do any particular exercise other than walking about once a week.
Currently I think I am averaging about 2 pounds a week also.
243/ 201/ 138

Start Weight (day of surgery) = 337
Number of pounds to lose = 147 total from the day of surgery with 88 to go as of today (I'd like to reach 190 since I'm 5'10" and think that would be somewhat reasonable for my height)
Age = 40
Exercise regularly (2/3 x's per week) = Yes
Average weekly weight loss = about 4 pounds
337 = 278 = 190
