Hi,
I regret not trying even harder to lose the weight without the surgery. This has been such a big change for me, I'm sure we all feel the same way to varying degrees. I still feel like I lost a friend, maybe not a "good, healthy" friend, but a friend all the same.
I believe I will get to the point where I am glad that I had the surgery, I'm just not there just yet. I'm VERY happy that I have lost a total of 71 lbs. that is phenomenal and I know that I would never have been able to lose that much in 4 months without it. I give the surgery, the surgeon & myself all the credit we deserve and going on I know it will be all me that has to keep it off. I hope I'm strong enough to keep all that weight gone forever.
SEEMS YOU'RE BEATING YOURSELF UP TOO MUCH ON THE "SHOULD HAVE TRIED HARDER" BEFORE WLS ... YA KNOW, OBESITY IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANIMAL THAN JUST BEING OVERWEIGHT. TRYING HARDER & FINDING THE "RIGHT" DIET JUST DOESN'T WORK FOR THE OBESE IN MOST INSTANCES. I'M SURE YOU STRUGGLED & TRIED YEAR AFTER YEAR TRYING TO OVERCOME THIS ISSUE. IF YOU COULD HAVE DONE IT THE CONVENTIONAL WAY, YOU WOULD HAVE, MS DAWN. YOU DIDN'T PURPOSELY STAY FAT ... NONE OF US DID. NOT THAT WE DIDN'T GIVE UP AT TIMES & THEN TRY, TRY AGAIN.
FUNNY, I SEE MY OLD FOOD HABITS AS THE "ENEMY" NOW WHERE YOU SEE IT AS A "FRIEND". I WATCH PEOPLE EAT IN RESTUARANTS & REMEMBER HOW I USED TO SHOVEL IT IN - LIKE OINKERS AT A FEEDING TROUGH ... &, NOW I FEEL LIKE THE "NORMAL" ONE & THEY ARE THE "ABNORMAL" ONES. WE'VE BEEN SOLD THIS "SUPER SIZED MEAL" IDEA RIGHT INTO BEING THE FATTEST COUNTRY ON EARTH.
EVEN NICK HAS SEEN WHERE LESS & BETTER QUALITY IS HEALTHIER FOR US & HE'S STARTED CHANGING HIS EATING PATTERNS ... MUCH TO THE BENEFIT OF THE DIABETES & HAVING LOST 11 #s AS WELL.
IT'S A HARD SHIFT TO MAKE ATTITUDE-WISE FOR SOME. HOPE YOU BEGIN TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOUR WLS JOURNEY. IF THERE'S ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO ENCOURAGE OR SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS, JUST SAY THE WORD.
GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK
