I was never told to stay away from orange juice, but I know a lot of people have been told that the citric acid is bad for your stomach (can lead to ulcers, etc). A few times I drank the low sugar OJ diluted with water, but I do notice that things with citric acid give me an upset stomach after a while so I kind of avoid it now.
I have never been told not to drink it. I had my surgery in October and I just started drinking it again about 2-3 weeks ago. I tolerate it just fine.
Maybe it is the type you are drinking?
I drink Tropicana Immunity Defense it comes in a white sort of milk jug looking bottle. I have an 8 oz glass every morning when I take my Flintstone's chewables.
I ahven't had any problem with it. The Nutritionlabel says it has 23 grams of sugar, so it may be the sugar that is causing you troubles or the citric acid. Try diluting it with 1/2 water 1/2 OJ, maybe that would help.
I have the orange juice in the "Avoid these foods completely" List of my surgeon along with grapefruit juice, lemonade, & tomato juice & soup. I know oranges are fattening because of the sugar, if you feel fine go for it, but be careful if you feel bad, our pouches are very sensitive and still healing.
