Water calculator...

Ok, Sheryl got me thinking because I am SOOO sure that if I could just drink more water, I could break my ELEVEN DAY (shoot me now) STALL! Anyway, I've read that you should drink half your body weight in water and I'm lucky right now if I can drink my 64 oz a day (pre-op I used to do TWICE that easily...)! So I had to go and look at this water calculator from about.com that tells us how much water you should drink based on weight, activity, etc... http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm It's interesting information... IF ONLY I could drink 143 oz a day now... Vi (I'm going to the gym now, at least there I drink more water!)

Ok 125.5 oz water... I think the maker of that calculater must be on some good drugs cause if I drank that much I might as well just put on a depends because I would be living in the bathroom 276/217/135 Kim

I would gladly wear the depends if I could get the water in.

Vi, Thanks for the info. It is very interesting. I know I drink a lot more water when I exercise too. Hope you break your 11 day stall soon. I know those stalls can be very frustrating. Luckily, I can not go and eat a lot when I get depressed or frustrated like I use to ! Now I try and exercise twice a day, sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't Have a great day, Mary L

My numbers came back a little more realistic "94 ounces of water today. If you eat a healthy diet, about 20 percent of your water need may come from the foods you eat. If you eat a healthy diet you can drink 75.2 ounces of water today." But I can barely get 40oz Hope you're stall ends soon..let us know Celia

I just read this on the California board and had to share with you Violet..hope it makes you feel better PLATEAUS Consider how difficult it is for you to run up ten flights of stairs all in one shot. Can you do it? I'm betting NOT unless you are a top-notch-conditioned Olympian, right? Now, of course, you could EVENTUALLY get up those ten flights of stairs if you rested on the landings periodically to catch your breath and pause for a moment before your heart explodes. you'd get up those stairs - but only if you rested on the landings or PLATEAUS. Well, running up ten flights of stairs in one shot is what we are asking our body to do after WLS in the way we want the body to lose a massive amount of weight. As our body loses weight so rapidly, it occasionally has to "rest on the landings" to catch its breath, get its bearings, take a breather. Then once it feels rested, it takes another shot at dropping the pounds again. It's remarkable that the body can drop so much weight so quickly anyway after surgery. but it can't do it all in one long shot like running up ten flights of stairs in one long shot. It has to rest on the landings or PLATEAUS. Keep this analogy in mind when you hit those plateaus. PLURAL. PLATEAUS. No such thing as ONE. you'll have many along your journey. When those plateau**** you still must do what you need to do. DON'T stop the good nutrition, the vitamins, the exercise. keep those routines going. And once your body is done "resting" in between the flights of stairs, it will kick in gear again for the next flight or two. And the more pounds that are dropped, the slower the pounds will drop too. so you will not lose rapidly during that last stretch of 25-30 pounds. it's like an athlete who gives his all during the race, sees the finish line in sight, and does all he/she can to finish, the muscles ache, the heart is about to burst. but the athlete DOES finish the marathon. some athletes "walk" across the finish line, but the point is they FINISHED. Understanding plateaus will help you relax a bit and keep you from self-doubt, which is something you don't need right now along your journey.

I was stalling all the time until my surgeon told me NOT to count everything, like water, protein and calories, just to eat well-balanced meals and since then I've lost more steadily. I think because the pressure of counting and feeling accountable to every bite I took was off I did better. I've lost more these past 2 weeks since he told me that since I began this process. Maybe we overthink things too much, and I know I put MORE pressure on myself when I was stalling, so my advice is to relax, eat when you're hungry, I do 4 oz meals, drink when you're thirsty and hopefully it will pass for you too! Good Luck!! Louise 215/170/125
