water weight

Does anyone know if there's anything we can do to get rid of water weight. I don't travel well, I always bloat, and plus sitting on my butt for 10-15 hrs/day this last week has made my weight fluctuate wildly from water gain. I've had between 800 and 1350 calories every day, mostly hovering near 1000, so I know the weight gain is not from food. I've been as low as 228 and as high as 234. These changes are appearing overnight. Plus my knuckles and my ankles feel "swelled". Yesterday morning the scale was at 234, today it's 231, 2 days ago it 232. When I got here I was 230, then went down to 228. In my head I know it's not "real" weight gain, but I would really like to see my weight stablize. My sis who is 3 yrs post-rny has gained back 30 lbs and just joined WW. She gained 2/10ths of lb this week and cried for 20 minutes. I could've murdered her. A different pair of undies would make you gain 2/10's of a lb! I'm dealing with 6 lbs up and down and achy hands and feet! Can we take water pills? It seems like such a stupid question, as most of us are stuggling to get enough water in the day, but I can't think of anything else to do. Any suggestions? Oh....and it definitely NOT that time of month, so this isn't from that. Thanks! Sheryl 292/who the heck knows for sure/160

I know water pills work, but you should just avoid sodium for a while. NO sodium might make the water go away. Celia

I squeeze fresh lemon in my water and that helps because the lemon is a natural diuretic. Avoiding caffeine and sodium helps too. I would stay away from the water pills though because they tend to deplete your body of potassium and we have enough problems with our absorption issues.

Drinking lots of water lets your body know that it doesn't have to hold onto it. Drink as much as you can and drink it from morning till night. It should help. Marcia 251/194/130

Sheryl, I know water weight sometimes makes me feel fat! When I am bloated I feel fat! You can try elevating you feet. Sitting with your feet hanging will make your feet swell. Whatching your salt intake will help, avoid things high in salt. Some canned foods are high in salt. I have found decaf coffee works like a diretic for me. If the swelling continues you may want to check with you medical doctor. Mary L

I'll try the lemon, Vi. That's a good idea. I've been eating in a hospital cafeteria for 80% of my meals for over a week, so I can't control the salt intake, and there's not really anywhere to elevate my legs when I'm sitting with my dad. The ride home tomorrow after a day at the hospital is just going to make things worse. I know I haven't even come close to 64 oz/day in water this week. Plus I've had 2 cups of caffeinated coffee (not on same day). Worse yet, my ankles always swell when I fly, so I'm going from a bloated situation right into another. I just know that as soon as my son and I get to an amusement park my body will decide to expel all fluids and I'm going to have to drag my 4 yr old into the ladies room repeatedly while he's kicking and screaming because he wants to ride the rides. That's just Murphy's law. Murphy doesn't like me very much. Tomorrow I'm going to try to drink a 20 oz bottle of water every 2 hours and see if that can "kick start" the peeing storm. My ankles are killing me, and my shoes are getting tight. Sheryl

Make sure you take frequent breaks to stretch your legs or even jiggle them around and flex (point your toes) a lot while you're sitting. I had a nasty blood clot in my right leg years ago so I always worry about sitting too long and swelling! Be careful! Vi
