I'm losing it...

I noticed today when I brushed my hair, a LOT of hair in the hairbrush, both before shampooing, and after. My hair was rather thin to start, I'm worried about how bad it's going to get. I've tried to be really good about getting my protein in every day, but apparently that hasn't been enough. Anyone else troubled with hair loss? Anything to be done about it? I've heard it will grow back... I sure hope that is true. Sheryl

Sheryl, Are you taking ground flax or flaxseed oil? It's supposed to help prevent hairloss post surgery. It might be worth a try, maybe you could slow down the hairloss? Sheryl

I'm having the same issue. I started taking Biotin a few weeks ago. It is also supposed to help, & I'm taking the flaxseed oil pills also. -Dawn

I take zinc and biotin everyday and I try to remember to put flax seed oil in my protein shakes because I read these things would help. I haven't had significant hair loss BUT I do think my hair around my scalp has gotten thinner (it's been thin for a while and it seems to get thinner in the winter for some reason -- I must be malting ). But I'm also doing 2-3 shakes a day since I have such a hard time eating solid food, so I get about 100 grams of protein a day... don't know if that helps... OH and I use shampoos and conditioners like "Matrix" (for thin hair) or Jason Naturals (also for thin hair). After I wash my hair I put biosilk in it (it's a clear serum) so it's possible that with all the stuff I put in my hair it doesn't have a choice but to stay where it is... I did read that hair loss around 3 months is common and it WILL grow back. Vi

HEY MS CELIA ... HAVE YOU TRIED BIOTIN? IT'S IN THE VITAMIN SECTION AT WAL*MART & IS SPECIFICALLY FOR HAIR, SKIN & NAILS. I HAVEN'T LOST ANY HAIR & MY NAILS ARE REALLY HARD NOW WHEN THEY USED TO BE PAPER THIN. THE SKIN ON MY FACE NEEDS SOME WORK, BUT I THINK THAT IS MORE OF NOT TAKING CARE OF IT THAN ANYTHING. ANYWAY, I TAKE 500mg 3 Xs A DAY & IT HAS DONE WONDERS FOR ME. GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK

WELL, MS CELIA ... I ANSWERED YOUR POST ONCE ALREADY BUT IT HASN'T SHOWN UP SO IF IT DOES TWICE, SORRY. YES MS CELIA ... IT HAS BEEN WAY TOOOOO LONG, BUT I'M BACK NOW & HEALTHIER THAN I'VE BEEN IN AGES SO THAT'S WHAT MATTERS! I CERTAINLY MISS YOU & EVERYONE ON THE OCT BOARD AS WELL. YES MA'AM, MY DOC IS FINE WITH BIOTIN EVEN IN THE AMOUNTS I TAKE IT (3 Xs A DAY). I TAKE A SPREADSHEET TO EACH APPOINTMENT WITH MY PRESCRIPTIONS, OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDS & SUPPLEMENTS SO HE CAN MAKE SURE I'M NOT TAKING TOO MUCH & THAT THE COMBINATION OF ALL THESE ITEMS IS SAFE. I OVERLOAD ON ALL MY SUPPLEMENTS BECAUSE I STARTED IN SUCH POOR HEALTH, SO WHERE MOST TAKE 500 - 1,000mg OF SUBLINGUAL B-12, I DON'T GET ANY RESULTS UNTIL I TAKE 5,000mg A DAY. SO, HOW MUCH YOU TAKE DEPENDS ON HOW HEALTHY YOUR BODY IS OR ISN'T. I TAKE 3 BIOTIN A DAY, 500mg EACH TIME & CAN SEE RESULTS IN MY HAIR & NAILS ... MY FACE SKIN COULD USE SOME HELP BUT I THINK THAT'S BECAUSE I HAVEN'T TAKEN CARE OF IT DAILY AS I SHOULD. HOPE IT STOPS YOUR HAIR LOSS & HELPS YOUR SKIN & NAILS. IF YOU DON'T SEE RESULTS, UP YOUR DOSAGE 1 PILL AT A TIME UNTIL YOU DO ... AFTER THE INITIAL TIME OF ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO GET IT INTO YOUR SYSTEM WELL. GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK

Sheryl, I haven't had any siginificant hair loss yet. From the support group I go to they say that since we are eating so few calories that our bodies will supply the vitiams, minerals and proteins to the areas that are vital to life and everything else will just get the left overs. This is just normal and as we adjust and eat more our hair will grow back. Mary L

Thanks for the feedback, everyone; I'll definitely buy some flaxseed oil capsules. Can't hurt...might help! I'm not sure what biotin is, but I will look into that as well. Thanks! Sheryl
