shopping for blue jeans!

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy that I HAVE to shope for new clothes, but it'd been a while since I tried to buy new jeans. Went to the local plus size place (Avenue) where I'd been able to purchase tall jeans that fit before only to discover that they got rid of actually denim jeans!! They are only selling low rise, stretch material, very light weight jeans. And, to top it off it seems that the way that jeans are designed now (likely by some size 2 designer who's never been a pound overweight in her life) they actually come in tight from the widest part of my body (hips darlings) to the knees and then flare out below the knees! And because they are not actually cotton denim, they show every fat roll and dimple. Was just so frustated while shopping because I had the money and the will to get a nice pair of jeans (3 sizes smaller than pre-surgery size thank you muchly) and thought I'd be able to just pop in and get the jeans that worked only a few sizes smaller. Bummer! I really need the clothes too! Anybody else had this type of experience? Guess I'll just have to hit ole Lane Bryant and see if that's any different. Thanks for letting me vent! Illini

Hey Illini, I know what you mean about jeans. I went and bought a pair of regular relaxed fit tappered leg Levi's that I am very happy with although I bought them last week they are already getting baggy. I tried all the boot cut stretch jeans also but I remember a bit from What not to wear and looked at myself in them and was like Oh No! so regular Levi's are for me. Marcey 255/210/150

Hi all, I went a few weeks ago and bought 2 pairs of jeans at Lane Bryant. (note in the magazine they have at the counter, there is usually a 20 or 25% coupon in it, you buy the mag for 2.99 & use the coupon) Anyway, I bought a pair of size 16 stretchy jeans. They are my favorite, I can put my hands in the pockets, play around with the kids and just be comfortable. They have a bit of flare at the bottom. They have boot cut, but no one really looks good in those I also bought a pair of size 16 non stretchy jeans. They are a lighter in color but heavier in material. They fit but not as comfy play'n around sort of comfortable. They didn't fit all that great that day, but fit just fine now. I am 5'3 so at the tall end of petit and I thought they were a bit short, but maybe as my weight goes down so will the bottom of the pants haha.

I know what you mean..... Totally drives me crazy looking for jeans. I loved the Avenue classic jeans and our store does not carry them either. I asked about them and they told me that they have a new designer and she did not like them. Who cares what she liked the customer liked them! I did just look on their web site and they have them!!!! I am not sure if they are the same or not but the say classic jeans are back!!! I am going to order me a pair and see.... Keep your fingers crossed that they are the same. Misty

Misty: Let us all know if the jeans on line are the same classic fit jeans we all know and love! Dawn: thanks for the heads up on Lane Bryant - I'll check there too. It's just too rough to only have one pair of jeans that fit and in black to boot!! Used to be able to find talls at LB too. (BTW watch what not to wear too and it was all I could think of when I stood in front of the mirror in that pair of boot cut jeans!!) So nice to know that I'm not alone in this!! Thanks everyone! I love this board! Illini

I am really steamed!!!! Went online to order the classic jeans from Avenue and they are on back order until 3/02/2006 - hopefully will not need plus size in March!!! So I guess finding them on line was not much help! Misty

This is too funny. I'm the exact opposite of all of you. I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of tapered leg jeans. I love the bootcut and the flare. My hips and butt are wide enough without drawing attention to them with a tapered leg. I will do a straight leg if all the rest are dirty, but the bootcuts are my go-to jeans. I don't really like the low rise, but I'm comfortable in both the medium and regular rises. The point of the wider lower legs is that they are supposed to "even out" your shape so you don't look big in just one place. Yes....I'm a 'what not to wear' watcher as well. I agree with a lot of what they say, but I don't think a bigger woman has to wear a tailored jacket with everything. I love long flowy shirts and they say they are no-no's. To each their own I guess. Good luck finding "the perfect jeans"! As for me, even my cotton crop yoga pants are bootcut! I can't help it...I'm a slave to fashion. If I see it in a magazine...I want it. Sheryl

Hello. I have to agree with Sheryl about the jeans. I also wear the boot cut jeans because it seems to look better (on me). I dont like a pair of jean bottoms to get caught in the top of my shoe or sneaker tongue. Seems that is what happens to me when I had a pair of normal straight leg jeans on. That isnt very stylish looking. I know it is very frustrating when you want to buy new clothes. I just purchased jeans at xmas time which are a size 16 and they are now too big for me. I love the weight coming off, but....I hate wasting money on clothes right now because I wont be in the sizes that long. The bit I have been buying I purchased off of Ebay. I bought Old Navy jeans. They have a very nice fit to them and they are a normal boot cut jean. Not lightweight. Also, I have purchased the Venezia jeans which are also bootcut jeans and a nice thick denim. Well, just wanted to put my thoughts on the board. Good luck with your weight loss and shopping. Renee

The thing I found to be funny was that Jessica Simpson is now selling a line of jeans at Avenue! The Daisy Duke girl selling jeans for people size 14 to 32!!!??? I have found some good jeans at Fashion Bug. The last time I was there, they had some "basic" jeans along with the stretchy ones. They also have some really good deals and clearance sections.
