Suddenly having trouble eating....

Hi everyone! I am about 12 weeks post-op and feel like I am doing quite well and really haven't had any trouble thus far. I was concerned however that just recently, in the last 2 weeks, I can hardly eat anything (amount wise). The only foods I've found that don't agree with me are chicken, rice, and pasta. Pasta made me sick, chicken just hurt, and I ate some soup that had a very small amount of rice in it and it was almost as bad as the chicken. Between 6 and 10 weeks post-op I was worried because I felt like I could eat too much. Now, I eat 3 or 4 bites and that's about all I can stand. I've read about people at first not being able to eat more than a few bites, but never being able to eat 4 oz. fine one week and hardly 3 bites the next. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Thanks Ya'll and keep up the good work!! Kate

Welcome to my world! I was able to eat almost anything last month and suddenly I became this picky anorexic girl who could only have about 3 or 4 bites of food. It's been a real challenge trying to find stuff that I can eat and right now someone is upstairs making shrimp (which I used to love) and the smell is making me gag. Most of the stuff I eat either bothers my stomach or just doesn't appeal. On occasion it'll make me throw up too. The first few times I had rice it was wonderful and the last time I had it I got so violently ill that I might not be able to look at rice again for at least a year! BTW, I'm 10 weeks post-op. I spoke to my surgeon and they said this happens, so I guess it'll pass. In the meantime, I'm trying hard to have at least one protein shake a day. I had pretty much stopped the supplements, but I had to pick them up again since I knew I wasn't eating enough of anything, let alone protein. Fortunately I found a new one that I really like -- a chocolate mint flavor by Dymatize (www.dymatize.com -- but it's cheaper on www.bodybuilding.com). I blend it with about 7 oz of LACTAID milk (milk bothers me now too) and I throw in a few frozen berries and I actually like it enough to drink the whole thing. Good luck!! And remember if you have any concerns, you should always mention it to your surgeon. Better to be safe than sorry! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Vi

YES!!!! I was one of thows that thought I was eating to much, of just about everything. For the last week nothing agrees with me. And I am lucky if I get 3 bites in. Most time it just makes me foam like crazy. But some times I cannot even drink water for several hours after eating, without losing it. I called the Dr. and he gave me an upper GI. Everything was normal. So I guess I have to live with it. Some folkes on the other message board say this is just a stage and it will get better. I hope so!!!!! And the worst of it is I have not eaten hardly anything this week and am in a platou. I have not lost anything in well over a week So you are not alone, Deb 392/322/180?

Thank gooodness for this massage board! I thought I was the only one with this weird problem. For the past few days, I can hardly eat more than a bite or two. And for the first time since surgery I throw up after eating a tiny bite of anything mildly salty. I was beginning to wonder if my pouch had shrunk with surgical scars! It's good to know I'm not alone..... ~Nonna

I have been having this same problem. At first I thought maybe I was developing a stricture but then i started writing down when this would happen and sometimes I would have no problems at all. Yesterday I even threw up my water - go figure!! Today I have had no problems with water but food - just does not appeal to me at all!!!! I have developed a hate relationship with food. I make myself eat. I sure hope this passes soon!! Sammie

Pasta and Rice have been my enemies since surgery. My ability to eat quantites changes almost daily. The only thing that remains consistent is Chili. It's now become my comfort food. Just listen to your pouch, if you feel full, stop eating. You don't want to overdo it!! Hang in there!

Just thought I'd let ya'll know that the Dymatize Chocolate Mint (under the brand Elite) is ON SALE at www.bariatriceating.com; what normally costs $26.95 is now $15.95 Yeah!! I also have the eating problem, but mine seems to come on for a few days, then goes away again.... Let me know if anything helps it! Rachael

Dymatize Chocolate Mint is BY FAR the best protein shake I have had -- and this is coming from a girl who couldn't stand any of them anymore. Yesterday I had TWO shakes and actually got in plenty of protein for a change. By the way, I picked up the 5 lb tub (HUGE) at www.bodybuilding.com for $25 with $6 for shipping. That's more than double the size of the one at bariatriceating.com, in case anyone is interested in the bigger size, it's a good deal and they delivered in 3 days! Hugs, Vi

I think it has something to do with our nerves being more functional now after healing. Marcia
