SlimFast Surprise
Hi gang,
I just had to share. I have been having an awful time in getting my protein in, and have been trying all sorts of protein powders. I bought some "Low Carb Diet" canned Slimfast yesterday; it has 20 grams of Protein, 6 g of carbs and 1 gm of sugar. It was $5.99 for four cans at RiteAid. The Slimfast "High protein version has LESS protein and higher carbs! And the regular kind is much worse with something like 26 grams of carbs and 2 grams of protein. Low Carb SlimFast didn't have a chalky aftertaste like most protein powers I have tried have, and it went down pretty smooth. PLUS, it was convenient (no pulling out the blender at 6AM); since I have to be at work at 7:30 AM, I usually take a protein shake to work with me for breakfast in the morning. This doesn't have the amino acids like the bariatric protein powders do, but I thought it would be good in a pinch, or to keep in your car for in cases of emergencies when you needed to have some nutrition and a blender wasn't handy.
I also went to Bariatric eating and ordered some "IDS, Multi-pro Whey Isolate" in Belgium Chocolate and Vanilla Cinnamon. They have their 2 lb canisters (26 servings) for under $20.00 dollars. I'll let ya' know how that goes.
Anyway, thought I'd share. Hope it helps someone.

Thanks for the tip! I got a sample of Dymatize (www.dymatize.com) yesterday in Cafe Mocha and it was awesome!! First protein drink I've tried since surgery that didn't taste gross to me! I'm definitely going to buy more, and I saw it cheaper on a few other websites so I'm getting it!
Hey I missed the part about free drawing when I was there, I'll have to go check it out!
I'm going to pick up the slim fast low carb too. It's nice to have something "on the go" when you need it! I didn't have much time to eat one day and that was a big mistake!
As for finding shakes, it's so hard when your tastes change from day to day. What I like today, I usually don't like tomorrow, so I hesitate to buy anything anymore and I haven't been eating enough lately.
THIS is a problem I never had before, so it's so foreign to me!
I KNOW what you mean I went to fitday.com and just for fun totaled what I normally ate in a day pre-surgery. I was taking in something like, 3,000 to 4,000 calories and over a 100 grams of protein! If taking protein could be so easy now *sigh*.
I did try the IDS, Multi-pro Whey Isolate in both flavors and I'm so happy I got it. 26 grams of protein in the vanilla cinnamon and 23 in the chocolate. They takes great, they are thick or chalky tasting. I use soy mlk to mix them and they taste like flavored milk. Sheesh, I sound like a commercial.
I keep a small bag of almonds in my car for those times when I know I should eat something, but I just don't have the time. I haven't tried the protein bars though; from reading the labels most of them seem to have a lot of carbs. A lot of people seem to really like them though. I'm just learning like the rest of us
WELL, I'M GONNA JUST JUMP IN HERE, MS VI, SINCE IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE BEEN ON BOARD ...
YOU HAD THAT PROBLEM WITH YOUR TASTES CHANGING FROM THE GET-GO, DIDN'T YOU? I JUST GAVE UP TRYING TO FIND GOOD TASTING PROTEIN DRINKS & STUCK WITH STALLONE PUDDING & PROTICA PROFECT. I LOVE THE PUDDING. THE PROFECT IS SWEET & SYRUPY BUT I CAN DRINK 2.7 OZ OF ANYTHING FOR THAT MUCH PROTEIN. ALONG WITH "NORMAL" FOOD, I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING MY PROTEIN IN.
WHAT I'M HAVING A PROBLEM WITH IS GETTING MY 64 OZ OF FLUIDS IN ... I'VE BEEN TERRIBLE AT THAT LATELY. LIKE YOU, I HAVE TO FORCE MYSELF TO EAT (NEVER THOUGHT I'D EVER SAY THAT) ... I'M STILL AT ABOUT 500 CALORIES A DAY.
