Swallowing pills?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone is swallowing whole pills yet? If so, how far out are you and roughly what size can you take? I'm pretty sure my doc said I could do this from 6 weeks (I will see him next week and ask again), but even though he says it's OK, I'd feel better hearing from someone with my anatomy! The taste of all my chewables comes close to making me gag every time. I'd really like to not be so grossed out by my vitamins, since they are so important. Also, for anyone reading this post, how much b12 do you take? My doc says 50mcg/day, 500mcg/week, or 1000mcg/2 weeks. I am using a liquid sublingual that says it has 1,200mcg per dose. That means I should take it every two weeks according to him, but using the search function on here showed me people that take that much everyday. What were you told? My doc is an expert in laproscopic technique and is a great surgeon, but only about 10% of his practice is WLS, so I sometimes question where he gets his aftercare info. Thanks for any advice you can give! Brenda 273/261 day before surgery/241 today (5 1/2 weeks out)

I asked my doc at exactly 1 day short of 6 weeks and he said try it and see if you can tolerate it. I could tolerate them with no problem..thank God. My meds in liquid form taste like crap! I take 3 capsules a day including biotin for my hair. I really dont wanna lose my hair

That's nice to hear. I just ordered some capsules and will be 6 weeks out on Monday. I am a little scared, but when I think about it, I am more scared every morning when I open the bottle of the gross chewable ones! Brenda

I was started on all my pills the night of my wls. I questioned the nurse about it and she said that's what my surgeon orders, and there should be no problem. She was right. I haven't had a problem taking any of my pills even a couple at a time. Dr Abkin told me to take everything the way I did before wls, including the horse pills I take for calcium lol. I know every surgeon's rules are different though. I was told 500 mcg sublingual b12 twice a day, but I couldn't find that size tablet anywhere, so I'm taking a lot more every day. I think I'll check with him at my appt on thursday and see if I should be taking it less often. HTH. Carol

500 mcg twice a day? My doc said that much a week! I am worried I am not taking enough. I wonder if it's possible to take too much?

No, it isn't possible to take too much B-12. Your body will flush what it doesn't need. Some vitamins can be dangerous if you have an overabundance, but this isn't one of those.

I am 9 weeks out, but I had a stricture problem. I just started taking pills, and it is a lot easier. I was afraid at first but it wasn't a problem. I take a 1000mcg B12 sublingual from Trader Joe's on Monday, Wed. & Fri. That is what was in my handbook from my surgeon & in my information packet from my nutrionist.

Brenda.. I have been sick and decided to try some Tylenol sinus and it has been fine for me..I break them in half and just swallow and take time in between the two halves...I was kind of scared but I was glad for the relief of Tylenol!!!! I also take the Trader Joe's B-12, I take mine every other day....my labs have been great!!! One other thing..I couldn't sleep very well for about the first five weeks so my PCP gave me trazadone and I had to cru****it didn't work very well for me that way...so this past week I tried cutting it in half..it is already scored and taking it that way...I slept like a baby!!! Go figure!!! Jenn

I am still crushing my calcium pills. I thought it would be a long time before I could start swallowing them whole. Maybe I will call my doc and ask. I take the chewable flintstones w/iron and for the B12, 500 mcgs twice a day. Marcia

I tried several different things. At first I was told to take Children's liquid Tylenol but I gagged. It was just too thick and sweet. Then I tried the Tylenol Geltabs, thinking that they were small enough but one got temporarily stuck and I had a bad pain in my right shoulder blade and (sounds gross) had the dry heaves. Today I took regular Tylenol tablets and broke them in half, making smaller pieces. That worked great. As for other med's I'm on, my surgeon only has me taking a Centrum Chewable and an ulcer med twice a day. My bloodwork came out fine. Best thing to do is check with your surgeon to see what he recommends. Good luck finding the right Tylenol for yourself. Peggy B.
