OT- another quick update
I had an ultrasound today and baby is definitely 10 weeks.
Looks like I am due July 4!
I called the surgeon's office and they do NOT test for pregnancy immediately before surgery- they test the month before. They are very nervous about this situation and don't think carrying a baby is a good idea. They are also disappointed at having gotten through this surgery safely and now having it 'undermined' by a pregnancy. I have to agree with them, I worry my health may suffer but I have been arguing with myself over this for days and I just don't think I am able to terminate. That is something I don't think I could live with.
I will have to work very closely with the nutritionist and will have to get blood drawn monthly (at least) to be sure I am getting the proper balance of nutrients. Babies tend to take what they need- so I am comforted by that fact. If it lived through the surgery, there must be a reason.
Talk to you soon!
Happy losing everyone!

Ann-
I can't believe the hospital didn't test you the day of surgery....very unwise on their part! My surgeon was telling me that he has had to cancel several surgeries on the day of due to pregnancy. Anyway, it's quite a mixed blessing- but you are right, the baby made it through your surgery, so it must be meant to be. Did your doctor actually suggest you terminate the pregnancy???? I would have walked out at that point! My husband and I are very pro-life, so that would never even be an option for us. But best of luck to you- stay healthy and get lots of vitamins!
Gosh I wish I could find that profile of the other girl who just had her baby! She found out around the same time as you did that she too had been about 3 weeks pregnant when she had her surgery! She just recently had the baby and the baby is fine!
I will keep looking... hang in there hon!
HUGS,
Vi
P.S. My surgeon doesn't test for pregnancy either?
Wow, Ann, 10 weeks! I'm still shocked that your surgeon's office doesn't test people the week prior to (or day of) surgery. Based on your situation, I hope they change their practice.
I'm glad you are coming to terms with the situation and getting more comfortable with the idea of having another child. Yes, this does 'undermine' your recent surgery, in a way, but you'll still have the benefit of a much smaller stomach the rest of your life, and still can use that as a tool to help control your weight. All is not lost.
I wish you all the best!
