I guess I'm just in need of support

I had surgery on October 12th and I guess I expected the weight loss to go a little faster. I get so frustrated with getting on the scale and seeing that I've gained 2 pounds or that I've only lost 1 pound in a week. Eating is a challenge in that all the things that I can eat and that don't get stuck are things that aren't good for me - crunchy things. I can eat tortilla chips, potato chips, pork skins easily but chicken or any other meats other than shrimp and pre-cooked bacon just don't work for me. I get that terrible pressure in my chest and I feel just terrible. I'm really just venting but anyone else having these issues?

shannon, I am having the exact same issues as you. I had surgery October 10, 2005 and this past week I have gained a pound and have not lost anything else. I am thinking that this must be normal because it seems a lot of us that had surgery this week are going through this. I have pretty much given up eating meat unless it is tuna because it does not sit well in my pouch. I can eat nuts, baked tortilla chips, protein bars without any trouble - I do not understand this. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever be able to enjoy eating again. Sammie

I am beginning to wonder if the point of this "tool" is to stop enjoying food so we never overeat again. I find that one day I can eat something and then next week it just doesn't work. I am trying to stay off the scale because it is a constant source of disappointment and just focus on the inches and how my clothes feel but the scale seems to call to me. I just don't know and the dietician tells me to try and stay awake from the crunchy things like tortilla chips and nuts but heck that's about all that I can eat without beig in agony - definately a double edged sword. I don't think I would care so much about food and what I can eat if I were losing more weight.

I had surgery on 10/31 and have had my own little 3 week battle with the scale. Stay off it for a day or two. Try the chicken that is canned, in the tuna section of the store, it's softer. I recommend Wendy's Chili. It's good! I don't mind the fat free hot dogs either, with a little bit of ketchup. They are soft on the pouch. Also try white fish like haddock or cod, broiled with lemon and sprinkled with bread crumbs. Here's the thing, from what you've mentioned, you are eating too many carbs and fats. Nuts are good for protein, but high in fat. Chips are carbs and will cause you to feel more hungry and faster. Are you using a protein powder at all? I have a shake every morning, I use Alba and mix it to the directions, add 1 scoop protein powder. This tool we now have is definitely designed to help us overcome our bad eating habits. Over-eating and eating the wrong types of food. I will gladly pay the price of not being able to eat sugars and all for the expectation of having a normal healthy body and being happy. The tool isn't designed to allow us to continue bad habits AND to reap benefits, we still have to watch what we eat (worse then Weigh****chers I swear!) and to use exercise to help our bodies along. I've added a long normal paced walk - 45 minutes on the treadmill at a rate that doesn't make me sweat, for fat burning. If you haven't started exercising, DO IT!!! I was stuck for 3 weeks until I started walking. Dance in your living room, use your stairs if you have them, you don't have to join a gym, just get moving. Seriously, I've had my moments of frustration, it's bound to happen. The ups and downs of the scale are enough to drive one insane, but here's the thing... you can't let what the scale tells you direct your emotions. Use other signs, like how your clothes fit as you said, to guide you. Has anyone told you that they can see a difference? That's proof right there! Most importantly... you can make the choice to be happy with yourself for your accomplishments so far or to beat yourself up for what hasn't been done yet. I choose to be happy, because I'm just dead tired of beating myself up.

I'm in the same boat. It's very frustrating. It's ok to vent because that's what we're here for. You just voiced something that some of us were already thinking. Take care!

I completely understand. I am losing very slow also. I have only lost 35 pounds in 2 months most of which were from the first 3 weeks. Anyone who thinks this surgery was the easy way out is so wrong. My problem is that nothing I eat bothers me. Which makes it hard to eat what I am supposed to. I am trying to think long term. I think I should ask my husband to hide the scale and only bring it out once a week so I won't obsess over each little pound. I am glad we have a place to vent. Hang in there! It will get better. I had my husband hid the scale as well and only weigh once a week. Get the scale out of site and it does help with the obsession of it. I don't want to eat either, but just yesterday was actually able to up my intake of food. Today started off good, but I ate part of a hamburger and it didn't settle so I promptly lost it. For dinner tonight I have only had a few peanuts and water.

Hey girl i'm in the same boat alot of meats don't agree with me either. I can't get the amount of food in my Dr says to get which sucks because it slows down our loss at 6 weeks i'm only down 30 pounds and i'm a scale aholic too. Everyone says it gets better so i'm just keeping the faith and hoping for the best. What I have noticed is sometimes when I eat meat it works sometimes it doesn't I feel my problem has to do with relearning to eat eating to fast or not chewing enough causes that stuck feeling and I have to throw up to unblock then if I slow down and concentrate on my chewing I do better. It's alot harder to change those habits than I thought. Hugs Marcey 255/225/150

I have the same problem. All the things that are easy to eat are the things I shouldn't eat. I haven't found a protien that I can eat without getting sick. I wind up eating way to many carbs just so I can eat something. I can eat crounchy or soft. Today I ate 1 donut hole for breakfast ( I could have had oatmeal) sugar does not bother me. lunch was a few bites of soft cooked veggies and dinner was a few bites of mashed potatoes and a few bites of veggies. I will have a protien drink later tonight.
