Not released to work; incision not healed

I spoke with the nurse practitioner at my surgeon's office today, and based on one of the incisions that is still not healed, she is not releasing me to work yet. But this is a GOOD thing for me, since I work for a large corporation and most of my salary will continue to be paid to me while I'm off work. This gives me two more weeks to focus on proper nutrition and regaining my energy. Yippee! Anyone else still dealing with an open incision? It's astonishing to me how slowly this is healing up. The NP suggested I take a couple of doses of vitamin C each day; she said it won't hurt and it may help. Other than that, the only treatment is to be vigilant about getting enough protein, and change the packing / dressing 3 times a day. Sheryl

Sheryl.. Glad you are getting more time to recoup...the one thing that has gone well for me is that my incision is completely healed.....I am so sorry you are dealing with an open incision...Vitamin C is a good promoter of healing...I got chewable from Trader Joe's....doesn't taste too bad at all...are you still on vacation??? I read that zinc supplements are also good for healing and when I was going to a "wound care center" a few years ago (for a non healing skin ulcer) they also recommended zinc.

I had surgery the same day and I am completely healed - have ben for weeks. Try the vitamin c, I havebeen taking a liquid C for almost 1 month now and it helps alot... Also a sublingual B complex every morning... that helps alot with the low energy level too... Take care Jeremy

Hi there Sheryl: My doctor had me take vitamin C in mass does before the surgery and I also added Vitamin K...I was healed in two weeks...try upping the protein and water...and talk to your doctor about the Vitamin B shot, if necessary...I found out on my blood work with my private doctor that my iron was low...will see the surgeon in two weeks...but I am taking an iron pill every other day and I feel much better...but make sure you talk to your doctor before you take any added vitamins..hope you feel good and yes the vitamin C and Vitamin K help...Regards and blessings...Dennis

Hey Sheryl, I'm another 10/25 rebirth and i had a problem with one of my incisions. it finally closed up, but it took the longest time. i still have scabs on the some of the other incisions, especially the one that's directly over my pouch. that's where my bra hits. i'm not back at work yet either, although that's because 2 weeks after RNY i fell and broke my shoulder. but i have lost 62 pounds since surgery! whoooopeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee best of luck to you. and keep drinking buckets of water. jan
