Slow weight loss.................

I've been really bummed lately. On Monday, contrary to what I had said, I did go out and purchase a scale. I wasn't going to do it, since I've read about so many people who become addicted to getting on several times a day. Well, I've only lost 23 lbs. so far. And, it really depressed me. But, reading what other people are eating, I've come to the conclusion that maybe I'm just not eating enough. I'll find out for sure at my 5 wk. appt. with the surgeon on Monday, but tell me what you think. Here's what I've had today: Breakfast - protein shake, Lunch - 1/2 c. soup (if that) and 2 saltines, Snack - 1/2 in. bite of pepperoni snack bite, cheese slice, Dinner - meatloaf - 1 tsp.(didn't want to go crazy) and mashed potatoes 2T, and Snack - sf popsicle. Now, I've also been drinking kool-aid all day, and am just now having another protein shake.

I use www.fitday.com to keep track of my calories, it is free and easy to use.....my surgery was on 10/26 and my doc wants me eating about 700 calories a day...I also exercise 6 days a week...I know if we don't eat enough we won't lose... was the kool-aid sugar free? how much protein are you getting in every day? I am shooting for 70 a day. I know that can affect weight loss too... Jenn

Mary.. there is no "only" when it comes to WLS, would you have lost that much in 2 months any other way? Be proud of what you have lost.. better a slow loser, then a no loser!! I get discouraged too, I am 6 months out and have lost "only" 86 lbs.. it gets hard when I read about others who have lost 100+ by now.. but everyone is different and I just thank God for this tool and even losing slowly, I AM LOSING !! Try to stay positive....I know how hard it is. It doesn't sound like you are eating too much, although make sure you are getting protein first (you said you have half as much meat loaf as you did potatoes, there is protein in that meatloaf, not the potatoes) Every program is different, I was not told to count calories, just protein and fat... but my nut said that for weight loss you should eat 100-1200 calories a day, otherwise you could go into starvation mode, and you don't want that. But check with your Dr to be sure, like I said all programs are different! Just remember to keep the protein and water intake UP! Are you exercising at all? that is key also, you need to move, even if it is walking.. your body will burn fat faster! Don't give up, the weight will come off, even if is is slow but sure! Let us know what your Dr says when you go back Brianna

Yes, all drinks and kool-aid are sugar free. And, I have at around 70g. protein daily, and am good at getting around 65 oz. fluids daily. I am walking on the treadmill daily. I'm just thinking maybe I'm eating too little.

Mary I haven't lost too much either...remember we all lose differently...do you drink a lot of water?

Oh my gosh, you just echoed sentiments that have been in my thoughts for days. I'm 7 weeks post-op and have lost "only" 30 lbs. I do gain lots and lots of water weight during my monthly cycle which depresses me even more. But from everyone's response seems I'm not eating enough either. I was too afraid of eating too much! And from what you listed you're hardly eating at all! Advice mentioned is great, protein first and eat more. Did you ever think you were going to hear the words "eat more to lose weight"? What a dream come true! haha! But also like everyone says at least it's coming off right? That's what I have to keep telling my impatient self! A plus to it coming off slowly is it gives our skin a chance to keep up!

Hi Mary! I was reading your post and noticed that we had surgery on the same day. I have not read your profile yet, but I will as soon as I am done posting to you. How tall are you and how much did you weigh going into this? I am 5'8" and started at 271, so I was considered a lightweight before surgery. I know that everyone loses at different rates and I also know that if you started out a lightweight then you will lose much slower than someone who did not. Let me just say that I have only lost around 25 lbs. if that, and the first 18 were within the first two weeks. I will find out tomorrow when I go to the dr.'s, but according to my home scale that is how much I have lost. I have pretty much been stalled since week 3. Just keep your chin up and keep plugging away. Try to get your calories up. I know it's hard when you don't want to eat, but you have to keep your body from burning muscle instead of fat. Hi Mary, I guess I feel compelled to answer any 'slow loser' topics, since I seem to be the winner in that category. I was 1 month yesterday and have 'only' lost 16 pounds. I am not sweating it much, but it can be frustrating. A while ago there was a 'slow loser' thread on this board, and there were a number of people who lost between 20-25 pounds the first month. You are definitely not alone. In fact, there are some of us (me!) who would do just about anything to have lost what you did in the first month, so please don't get too upset about it. Hang in there!
