I was told by my nutritionist that I can have carbonated drinks at 6 months out. I was told that they don't stretch your pouch. My doctor said they just make you crave more. I have been told so many things about this I don't know what to think. I was addicted to Pepsi, and I think if I start to drink it again--even diet---I will be addicted again. I will stick to my Diet Snapple for now. Don't get me wrong.....I want a Pepsi soooooooo bad, but I will not give in. ~~Diamond~~

Hi Sheryl!! I would never drink a a soda again... I took thes decision of Gastric Bypass to change my lifestyle and become a healthier person...and I know soda isn't good for you even before surgery...I rarely let my children have one, probably one every 2 months. I really care for my body and my health and plan to stay away from it. I am fed up of harming my body filling it up of junk...if I wanted to continue with my old habits I would of not had the surgery. I figured that if I had this surgery it was because I was planning on changing ymy life around..Becoming a healthy person with good eating habits...It would be silly of me to have the surgery and continue eating what I used to eat before but in small amounts...I really want to take care of myself for my children.... But you should go ahead and drink as much soda as you wish... you are SUPER GASTRIC BYPASS WOMAN and can eat anything and everything, be fine and lose the weight....Lucky You!

Celia, I have changed my eating habits. I eat much less than I did before, and I'm making much better food choices. Tonight at my sons birthday dinner, for instance, I ordered grilled shrimp skewers and steamed broccoli, whereas in the past I would've gotten ribs or fried shrimp with fries and a salad. I've also changed my health habits, because I never would've even considered working out like I am now. I did my 1 hr water aerobics class and thought that was enough. Sometimes I didn't even do that. I've worked my butt off for every lb I've lost. I go to the gym for a 9am class, and rarely leave before 1 pm. Granted, some of that time is showering, dressing, and makeup, but I am consistantly working out 3 hrs a day, 4 days a week. Sometimes more. I rarely give my son any kind of soda. I don't even give him much juice. He drinks milk, water, and lately milknog (half skim milk half egg nog to keep the fat down). The kid is an eggnog addict. I don't want to switch to pop, and stop taking water and tea. I just want something with carbonation every once in awhile. I don't care if it's diet pepsi, club soda, seltzer water, or sparkling water. I just enjoy the bubbles every now and again. Is that weird??? Like I said I'm going to ask the dietician and see if I can have 1 carbonated drink per week. If she says no, then I won't. I was just really confused when I walked into my WLS support group and there were diet sodas all over the place. And the surgeon and support staff were all sitting right there not saying a word about it. Talk about mixed messages. Sheryl 292/254/1??

C L - You are sooooooo on the money and going to be a success at this. This is my own personal ideas and Im sure im gonna catch heck for this but I believe that people who make excuses of why they eat this and why they eat that is just excuses and reasons to slip into their old eating habits. I refuse! I did this to change my life. Not to go back to eating the way I did and old habits. We have a 9-12 month span where we lose regardless. After that, all those bad habits you built up will come back to bite ya in the arse. I also think that saying "my doc says its okay" is just another excuse. Bottom line. There is nothing good in pop. Diet or regular. They both cause your sugar to elevate and crave more. Its your body, do as you wish. I choose to NOT go back to the old ways of eating, drinking or other. I choose to make this surgery a success and use this tool to save my life. Stepping off of soapbox

Deb, Consider yourself catching "heck". Just because other people do things other than the way you do them doesn't mean they are doing them wrong. You have your opinions, but you do not know more than my, or anyone else's surgeon or dietician. If you did, you would not have needed this operation in the first place. Personally, I've never made an excuse for a food choice. You may think I'm falling back into old habits, but Deb, you don't even know what my old habits were. You may think I eat too much, or too much variety. That's your opinion. I think you don't exercise enough. That is mine. We are both entitled to them. But when you posted that you only did 1/2 an exercise class, did I post a reply about how it's your body and this surgery would never be a success unless you started to move it? No I did not. All I'm asking is that you be polite. If you want to post that pop isn't for you and never will be, great. But when you post that people whose doctors said pop is fine are using it as an excuse to "fall into old habits", it's rude. And I'm not just speaking for me. I'm speaking for everyone on this thread who is drinking soda. As for the 9-12 month grace period where we all lose weight regardless, I can't argue about that. However, if you think that I'm losing weight only because of this grace period, you are sorely mistaken. I ate 900 calories yesterday and burned over 1000 just from exercising. That leaves an excess of almost 3000 calories burned for the day. That is why I'm losing weight. I had a stall out when I was eating 600 cal/day. It wasn't until I increased the amount of food I was eating that I began to lose weight again. This was all done under a nutritionist's supervision. I've worked hard for each and every one of my 39 lbs lost. Okay....."heck" taking session over. Have a nice night. Sheryl 292/253/1??
