Is anyone having a problem with meat ? I try and chew chew chew but I don't know if i'm chewing enough , eating to fast or what. It seems most the time when I eat meat it seems like it gets stuck in my throat right above my pouch I can't burp when it does this and I end up in the bathroom throwing up to clear the passage. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Marcey 255/230/150

Marcey I am just a little a head of you and I can not eat meat. I chew, chew, chew, I cook it in the preasure cooker, crock pot. I have tried to grill fish, very moist and nothing. I have been able to get tuna salad down but not a big fan of that. Make sure to mention it to you doctor. I can eat beans, chili ect. no problem. Even cheese, like string cheese or those cow cheese has that same uncomfortable feeling. Every time I try meat I throw it right up. The texture chewing gives me the urge to be sick. My doctor told me not to pu**** that it will get better. My Nutritionist said some people are 3-6months before they can tolerate meat. But by all means talk to your doctor. I just make sure to get my protein in other ways and I am able to keep my level at 60. Good luck I feel for you, everyday it gets a little better. What I have found is I stay busier now that I can move that I don't think of just eating. I have to make myself eat therefore I choose something rather than grabbing what ever. Jane

Hi Marcey: My doctor says no red meat for a year...and maybe, maybe ground beef after 3 months...don't pu****you will feel icky..my doctor says fish, soft...crab, shrimp..BUT NO MEAT...IT IS A BIG NO NO...I can't even eat chicken until 3-6 months out...but I have had a bite or two of turkey...so again be careful...I am amazed at each person's diet...each doctor seems to say something different...if you can't get it down...leave it...Dennis

I agree with Dennis, if you can't get it down, leave it! I'm lucky in that my surgeon allows us to eat pretty much anything and I haven't had any problems with meat, BUT I do have the problem you described with my multigrain bread (toasted), it does NOT want to go down and will just sit there... ICKY!!! I tried it a couple of times and gave up!

My doctor agrees...NO MEAT FOR ONE YEAR!! I love meat and will miss it but it seems logical because red meat is very hard to digest for our little pouch..

I've been having the same problem. I've even tried soy protien and I haven't been able to eat that either. I mostly eat soups and cheese and crackers.

I'm right there with you. Meat almost always makes me throw up, because like you, it gets stuck and that's the only relief I can get. I think I eat too fast too, but I chew, chew, chew. Sometimes I forget and swallow too soon. Good luck. Margie

I have the same problem too, and the exact same feeling, like it gets stuck in my throat. I did have an easier time with a small peice of chicken that I put a lot of gravy (baically just low-fat cream of mushroom soup) on, and let the meat sit in it for a while. My surgeon hasn't gven me any meat restrictions either, so tried very lean ground beef in SUPER small pieces, it went down ok, but I had to chew it to almost liquid. A friend of mine that is ahead of me by a couple of months swears by eating meat in the small babyfood jars. I haven't tried it though. Sorry you are having a rough time, I think in time it should be better. ~Nonna

The biggest problem I have with meat is chicken. No matter how much I chew it seems to get stuck most of the time. I can pretty much take anything else except for sausage which I don't eat a lot of anyway! I wish you luck! In time you may be able to eat it with no problems. Keke

I have always had problems digesting red meat, but i do like it. I found this product made of soy, its called Gimme Lean. It comes in ground beef flavor and sausage flavor. I love it. It is in the veggie section with the tofu stuff. It tastes really good and i digest it with no problems at all. Good Luck. LisaMarie
