iron..do you take this yet???
Hey all..
My doc wants me to take an iron supplement...I haven't yet...bought the wrong kind and then I bought the right kind today and realize that it is a pretty good sized pill and I can't take pills till 90 days out....I don't want to cut it because it would still be too big for me....
Are you all taking iron yet? If so, how do you take yours? I hate it when questions come up and the docs office is already closed and you don't know what to do...
Anyway...hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving..I am going to my fellowship meeting tonite and then gonna hibernate tomorrow...it has been snowing here all day and I can't wait to just stay home for a full day...

I just started taking an iron pill at noon every day. It's a very tiny capsule and I have no trouble swallowing it. The Calcium citrate and D pills they gave me to take, though are HUGE and I have to take 2 pills/2x day. It takes me 15 minutes and a ton of gagging to get them down. Cutting them makes them worse, as they get sharp edges. Are you taking calcium? If so, in what form?

Jenn,
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I have the name of the iron supplements with me at my moms. Anyway....it's called NU-IRON and it's over the counter, but they keep it behind the pharmacy desk because it's one of those medicines that's very dangerous if kids overdose.
My calcium citrate is not chewable. They are HUGE pills that I have to choke down 4x/day. Where do you get the chewable kind?

My doc prescribed FerroTrinsic capsules. I have to take two a day forEVER. It's part of his program. I take a sublingual B12, a B1 and an iron after breakfast. I take a Vitamin E (that's too big to swallow and stay in there) and an iron at lunch. In the evening I take a Vitamin A&D and my calcium. The pills make me very full. If I take them before I eat, I throw them back up. Now I am figuring out a balance of how much food to have in my pouch before taking them.
I wasn't allowed to take any vitamins except for Flintstones for the first six weeks. Doc said any pills on my new tummy that weren't crushed or chewed (IF THEY COULD BE CRUSHED OR CHEWED) were the only kind I could have.
When did he tell you he wanted you to have iron? If the pill can be broken (the bottle will tell you if it can), then you can break it up even smaller and swallow 8 pieces if you need to.
Hi Jenn,
I had my 1 month post op blood work and the surgeon told me to take "Gentle Iron" twice a day. I can't believe i've developed an iron deficiency in one month - i used to be a big beef eater!
i'm taking all my regular pills for high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. every morning with my protein shake. i also have meds i take at night. the only thing my surgeon told me to back off of is aspirin (my endoscopy showed damage) and fosomax (not very gently on the pouch).
hope you enjoyed your hibernation day
