Left side pain?

I have seen or heard a couple people mention having a nagging left side pain...I never inquired about it because I wasn't having it...but now I think I may be. It's kind of an aching, every once in a while sharp (especially when I breathe in deeply) pain. It's right where my rib cage starts towards the middle of my abdomen and then out a couple inches. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow so I can figure it out then, I was just curious....

Hi Kate, I've been dealing with various pains on the left side since surgery. The area you describe is where I've been feeling more of an achy pain for the past two weeks. It's also an area where there was visible swelling in the first 3 weeks following surgery; I think a lot of surgical work was performed in that area. I don't have the sharp pain when I breathe in, so that is different. I was talking with my clinic's NP about various pains today, and she said that the more active you get (more walking, or starting to exercise), you'll start to feel aches and pains in areas you may not have before. Her other comment was that if you feel a sharp pain when you are sitting still, it's probably gas; when you feel a shapr pain when moving /stretching, it's because of internal stitches & healing. Good luck to you. Sheryl

Kate, I understand your concern, I've been dealing with a nagging left side pain for the past week or so, I just noticed yesterday that it has seemed to subside, I'm so glad.....I went for my 2 week check up on the 16th and told my surgeon about it, he said something at the time that I thought was strange, but hindsight is 20/20 and now I know its true, he told me most likely it was my intestines {large}; finding its way back to its normal position in the body, and a pocket of gas too, I beleived him about the gas, but not about the intestine deal, until the other day, when trying to help myself {sorry for this}; flatulate, I felt the pain again in my left side, each time I helped myself along, and that's when I realized it was gas, and also my intestines trying to find their way back home, if you will, and of course swelling from the surgery, like I said for the last few days I havent had it, I take Gas-x regularly and it has helped alot. Good luck hope the pain goes away soon..... Sheryl, I cannot thank you enough for your post, you really explained in great detail what I've been wanting to know about this nagging left side pain for awhile, thank you, thank you, thank you, I can only imagine what turmoil my insides endured during surgery, the healing process is a long one, I must learn to be patient and listen to my bodies needs, I have been walking more, no excercise yet, I'm still sore and numb in my abdomen, but I do stretch occasionally..... Have a wonderful Holiday Season....Both of you.......

I thought it was just me. Days after surgery I had a sensation almost of a pulled muscle in my bottom left quandrent of my abdomen. My surgeon said that I was just becoming more aware of my body. I didn't buy it but I haven't noted the discomfort lately. Guess all is well.
