Is rice a bad idea? I have been told both yes and no on this. I love rice, fried, steamed, in things, alone - I love rice..... Thanks Jeremy

It depends of what kind of rice. Plain rice cooked until it is fully expanded is okay. The thing that has given me trouble is when I eat fried rice from a chinese place or mexican rice. You eat until you are full and then it expands more in the pouch and makes you sick! Just like everything else, chew, chew, chew. The other thing is when you fill up with rice there isn't much room for protien. Hugs, Dawn

At 4 weeks out I was given the ok for rice but just a couple bites, I'm still using baby spoons was enough. Tasted great but got real full. I eat it in soup and its been ok, I just don't make that my meal.

I haven't written anything on this board since before my surgery but I was very curious about rice and I noticed that everyone was talking about food so I thought I would ask...

I've had red beans and rice but ok course the rice was really soft and almost melted in my mouth. The beans are protein and I added sausage so that was protein too (couldn't eat much of though because sausage doesn't sit very well with the ole' pouch)!! Keke

I had a tablespoon of cooked spanish rice and I moistened it with sauce from sauteed chicken and it was heaven! Had no problems with it! I love rice too! Vi

Rice was on my approved list after 2 weeks. I've eaten several different kinds and haven't really had a problem with any of them. I got sick when I ate chinese food, but from the sesame chicken, not the rice. I haven't tried wild rice or sushi rice yet, but that's about it. Sheryl 292/257/1??

Hi Jeremy, I haven't tried rice yet, because I've heard some folks have trouble with it, as well as pasta and white bread. I think it's the "gooey" factor, these kinds of starchy foods can be rather gummy and can get stuck in your itty bitty new stomach. I ate about 1 tbs of pasta last night, and had no trouble; however, it appears that tolerence is a very individual thing. Seems like your best bet is to try a very little bit, and see how it goes. If it goes OK, have a little bit more the next time. Sheryl

Hi Jeremy- Saw your post so I thought I'd try rice. It's on my approved list but hadn't given it a go until today. I had some rice and fish at lunch and was only able to eat half of it. Was going to finish the rest for supper and started eating it and threw up. Don't know if I ate too fast, but didn't think so. I chewed it well so don't know what the deal was as I had NO problems at lunch. Go figure. Hope you have better luck than me! Later, Nancy
