Thanksgiving
Anybody else just dreading Thanksgiving?? I would rather just skip the whole thing, I'm not looking forward to it at all... It doesnt help that this will be the first time in about 10 years that we dont get to go home and be with our families, but now I cant even eat! I know I'll be able to have a little bit, but I probably can't even have one bite of the things I want, and that just sucks. I dont know why I'm letting this get to me, anyway, I have absolutely no appetite anyway and have to force myself to eat most days. Ugh, this time of year has always been about food, it's SO hard to change the way I think.

Hey there sweetie,
I know how you feel. You just have to be as strong as you can. I know you will be fine. I know its hard being away from your family on the holidays. We are not going home either. All of our family lives in Virginia and we live in Louisiana. My husband is in the Army and we have lived here for about a year. Just be strong and remember we are here for you.
Take care and have a good day.
Hugs

Hi Rebecca,
I know this probably isn't going to help, but maybe if we think about what we have to be thankful for instead of the food it might be easier? Put on a nice outfit, make your face up pretty and concentrate on the new YOU and the new BODY that is emerging and all the opportunities that this amazing surgery is giving us.
My other suggestion is play games!! I'm thinking of buying the DVD version of trivial pursuit!
And I personally plan to have a little bite of everything I desire that day! I know I'll be satisfied with just a little and that makes me happy. It'll be the first thanksgiving where I won't feel disgusting and bloated like everyone else!
Hugs,
Vi
This will be my first Thanksgiving/Birthday I wo`nt be having Turkey or cake so I know how ya feel!
I`m thinking along the lines of okay...this year I wo`nt have to feel guilty about eating too much and all the moaning and groaning that goes along with that
Besides you can have a little of the turkey and the mashed potatoes at least?
It will be okay cos we are all in the same boat and next year we will be able to eat a little bit more

Hey Rebecca,
I was seriously considering not going to my family's Thanksgiving dinner. it's been 2 years since my Dad passed away and it was his absolute most favourite holiday. the first thanksgiving after his death was only 2 months, and it was horrid. like there was a huge pink elephant in the room that everyone was ignoring.
but this past year, my younger cousin had RNY, and mine was last month, so i know i have a lot to be thankful for, even with the broken shoulder. Today i put on a pair of khaki pants i haven't worn in 2 years! And i tied my sneakers too! (not an easy task with only 1 functioning arm).
So i'm going. I'm bringing a couple of protein shake mixes with me. i'll have a small bit of turkey, and a half spoonful of stuffing, yams, and cranberry sauce, and i'll be full.
It's not so much the food, as being with my family, which is aging and dwindling. my Mom has literally given up her life these past couple of weeks to chauffer me around to all my doctors' appointments. Thanksgiving is a big deal to her. It's the least i can do.
However, i am NOT baking!!!! this will be the first time in about 15 years that i haven't made all the desserts for the family. even with a kitchenaid, you just can't roll out pie dough with 1 arm!
hang in there Rebecca.

Rebecca,
I know how you feel. I can only have 2 oz of turkey and nothing else. It's not my idea of Thanksgiving, but I'm going to enjoy myself anyway.
I will bring 1 of my protein shakes and a few popsicles and have them. I will just eat them as if it's just another day and not Thanksgiving. I'll be having so much fun seeing relatives that I haven't seen in along time that I probably won't even know that before I know it I don't miss eating all the Thanksgiving foods.
Just bring with you any proteins that you are doing, sit down at the table like everyone else and instead of focusing on the food, focus on the people there and what your thankful for. # 1 could be you are thankful for having this surgery done as you are getting healthy.
Always,

Only the Holiday clean-up
Seriously though, I'm looking forward to seeing my daughter from college (she's traveling a long way to be here), and to being around the Thanksgiving table with family and friends. I'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner, and actually it's not a chore because I do enjoy cooking.
As far as eating, I think I've had plenty of years where I've eaten too much, and felt bloated, fat and tired afterwards; this will be a change.
I am more worried that I will not have enough energy to do everything I want to do, but I'll take it a day at a time.
