I had my surgery Monday, October 31st - 13 day's ago. I have a condition that Dr. Boyce refered to as Gastric Bypass Distention - which means the lower/remant stomach has not completely "woken" up yet and is getting with the program. I have a bag attached to my drain tube that is collecting yucky smelling bile stuff from the remant stomach that is not going through the intestines as normal procedure. When I questioned Dr. Boyce and then his staff as to why I am having excessive burping with nothing coming out the bottom they are unclear as to what is going on. Their response was that I was getting too much air when I drink however this morning when I got up (nothing to drink at this point) I have burped a total of 9 times and only managed to poot twice. Anyone have this problem? I feel so alone on this and am going to work tommorrow and can't keep burping all through the day. P.S. GASAX offers some relief, but not much.

I don't know if this will help you at all, but I got this from my surgeon's web site: http://www.obesity-surgery-associates.com/solutions.htm "If you are still having symptoms try remedies such as Acidophilus, Gas X®, and Gaviscon®. Devrom® can help eliminate offensive odors. You can order Devrom® factory-direct at (800) 453-8898." I tend to have a lot of burping after I eat or sometimes if I stop drinking water for a while. Good luck at work tomorrow!

I'M DOING THE SAME THING, MS RACHELLE. I STARTED BURPING IN THE HOSPITAL THE 1st TIME I WENT WALKING DOWN THE HALLS & I HAVEN'T STOPPED YET. I DON'T BURP AS MUCH NOW, BUT I STILL BURP. YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN ME IN CHURCH TRYING TO CONTROL THE NOISE OF MY BURPING ... MADE IT THROUGH WITHOUT MAJOR EMBARRASSMENT!!!!!!!! I'M REALLY THANKFUL THAT I DON'T HAVE GAS & TOOT AS I UNDERSTAND THAT CAN BE REAL STINKY. SO, IN MY MIND, THE BURPING IS A BLESSING ... IT COULD BE WORSE. GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK PS: OH YEAH, IT'S WORSE FOR ME IF I USE A STRAW WHEN DRINKING, SO NO MORE STRAWS.

I burp every time I take a drink, no matter how slowly I sip. I haven't used a straw (but didn't know I wasn't supposed to either). Like Dawn, I don't have much problems with the tooting, but I'm burping constantly. You are not alone! Sheryl
