Hi Keke! I joined a gym on Monday and have only been once.... I did 1/2 hour... I couldn't do more) yesterday I was too lazy to go..and I plan on going today...my doctor said to do only cardio..I've never been in a gym before so I don't really know the machines...which ones do you recommend?

No sad faces. You did go to the gym so that's a start. As for the best cardio...........I would say the treadmill or the bicycle or a low impact aerobics class (since you're beginning). If your gym has a pool.........swimming/water aerobics once you are healed completely. According to www.exerciseabout.com the following are the top ten cardio exercises. 1. running 2. cross country skiing 3. bicycling 4. ellipitical machine 5. swimming 6. step aerobics 7. rowing 8. rock climbing 9. walking 10. handball http://www.weightlossforgood.co.uk/cardio_exercise.htm Benefits of Cardio Training - Increases calorie burn - Weight Loss - Reduces the risk of heart disease - Increased lung capacity - Reduced blood pressure - Prevents diabetes - Burns body fat - Increase metabolism (see BMR) - Strengthens the cardiovascular system - Strengthens the immune system - Lowers stress levels Examples of Good Cardio Exercises Swimming Power walking / treadmill Cycling Skipping / Jump roping Jogging Aerobics (any exercise that keeps your heart rate in the target heart rate zone). I hope this helps!!!!!!! Sorry for the long post!!

The elliptical machine is wonderful!!! I've been hooked on it for the past 4 years every since I joined the gym. It's gentle on all your joints and it's kind of like a "soft jog". Most of the ones in the gyms now have the arms that you use while you work the pedals so it gives you a great upper and lower body workout at the same time PLUS it burns more calories per minute than all the other cardio machines. I haven't started back on it again though, because the machines at my new gym are a bit tighter than the ones at my old gym and it was putting a little too much strain on my abdominal muscles, so I'm waiting a few more weeks before I get back on it. For now I'm using the treadmill. I also LOVE the nautilus circuit. It makes me feel so strong. I used to do it 3 times a week in addition to my cardio, but we have to wait 6 weeks before we can do any lifting, so that's going to have to wait a while! Vi

YOU WERE WISE, MS VI ... STICKING WITH YOUR EXERCISES BEFORE SURGERY ... & NOW, YOU HAVE THE BENEFIT OF BEING STRONGER AT THIS POINT. I DIDN'T & I'M STARTING FROM THE GROUND UP ... I'M BEGINNING ON MY RECLINE BIKE SO I'M NOT DOING ANY WEIGHT-BEARING EXERCISES WHICH MAKES MY JOINTS SCREAM. I TRIED 15 MINUTES OF WALKING & BY THE TIME I GOT HOME, I WAS ALMOST IN TEARS. I FIGURE SINCE I'M SITTING ON A LARGE SEAT WITH A BACK SUPPORT ON THE RECLINE BIKE & HAVE MY LEGS OUT IN FRONT OF ME, THAT MY HIPS ARE SUPPORTED & THERE SHOULD BE NO STRAIN ON MY JOINTS. WE SHALL SEE. GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK

Today I walked for 22 minutes and did 1 mile (a little slower than yesterday, but I'm so freakin' sore), rode a stationary bike for 15 minutes (average speed 13.9 mph), 1 hour aquacize class (I do the hard one on Mon/Wed and the easier one on Tues/Thurs), and then tread water for 20 minutes instead of swimming laps because the chlorine level was really high today and I forgot my goggles. I did an exercise tape. I didn't want to over do it so I did the Richard Simmons "Sweating to the Oldies" and had a pretty decent workout! As my stamina builds (and I drop some more pounds) I plan to get into running. Hopefully my knees will be able to stand it! After the first of the year I plan to join the gym again so I can get into water aerobics again. I love that dearly! I may even try to get certified to teach the class. Have a good one!

I loooove his tapes, I think I have all of them. Disco Sweat is my favorite followed by the Broadway serious! I loved all the show tunes! I know this might sound crazy, but I love Tae Bo too! I always modified it to my own skill level, but it made me feel so good that I was able to work my way up to do something like that!
