Eating and Timing
OK...I am posting in hopes that someone will know better than I...
I am having a REALLY hard time with eating and timing. By this I mean, it takes me FOREVER to drink a protein shake and I am only supposed to drink in between meals. The problem is...I cannot drink 15 to 30 minutes before I eat and 1 hour afterward. How am I supposed to get all of my liquids and meals in at this rate???? I would have to have such a strict regimen starting at about 7 a.m. until I go to bed to get everything in. Maybe I am just not understanding it...
Is anyone else having problems with this?
Thanks!
Kristine
I was told that drinking before and after eating during this stage is just practice. It is really hard to get in everything. I consider my protein shake a drink not a meal this is what i'm finding works for me
Morning
nectar tea or protein shake - drink 20g protein
cream o wheat w/ protein as a meal 15-20 g protein
more fluids of some type 16-24 0z
Lunch
pudding or applesauce w/protein 10-15 g protein
more fluids 16-24 oz
Dinner
soup
carnation instant breakfast and milk w protein warmed like hot chocolate before bed 20-25 g protein
Fluids I use are crystal ligh****er tea w/splenda etc.
I'm having an easier time getting what I need doing it this way it took me a while to figure out but seems to be working for me hope this helps.

Hi Marcey!
Thanks for the good advice. I was also told that it's just practice, but I was also told that it's really important that you should get it down now because it will make it easier in the long run???? I am not going to focus on it as much as I am later, but I am still going to have this problem in a week or two. What to do ???
I am assuming in your menu that when you say Morning, that you are saying that you don't eat all of that at one sitting. Also, how do you get protein in your applesauce? Are you putting powder in it?
Thank you again for your response! It has really helped!

I have to eat 6-8 times a day. I use my protein shakes as meals, but I also count them as liquid intake.
Here's an example of what my day should look like (and sometimes does if I can get going with it early enough...
Breakfast= Protein Shake
drink water
midmorning snack=1/2 cup natural applesauce
drink water
Lunch= 1/2 cup soup (blended to get protein)
drink water
midafternoon snack= 1/2 cup sf yogurt
drink water
Dinner= 1/2 cup mashed potatoes with cheese or soup
1/4 cup V-8
drink water
before bed snack= protein shake
I am just having a really hard time getting it going early enough.
Thanks!
Kristine
9 am Breakfast protein shake (this is a liquid so you don't have to wait to start drinking water, the shake just funnels on through the pouch)then drink water until 10am
10:30am Snack
11:45am water
1:00pm Lunch
2:30pm water
4:00pm Snack
5:30pm water
6:30pm Dinner
8:00pm water
9:30pm Bedtime Snack, protien shake
So, how do you think this would work?
Hugs,
Dawn
No, I need one less snack a day per my Docs instructions. And I don't do protien shakes. Here is how mine is going.
wake up
9am drink water and have some coffee
10:30am breakfast
11:30 drink water
12:30 lunch
TAKE NAP
2:30 drink water
3:30 snack
4:30 water and sugar free popsicle
7:00 dinner
8:30 water
10:00 bedtime snack
You also have to realize, I am a revision so I can drink pretty fast. My Doc didn't have to revise my stoma, only the size of my pouch. If you would switch your afternoon snack with your bedtime protien drink it would save you a little more time because the shake can be done at the same time with water. Just an idea.
Hugs,
Dawn
