Good news/Bad news

I was out of the house the whole day today, and had to eat 2 meals out. The first was at Qdoba Mexican Grille. I had a naked burrito. It's rice, beans(I chose black beans), ground sirloin, cheese, salsa, and I added guac. I ate like 10-12 bites and chewed chewed chewed. I have tons of leftovers, and if I didn't have John to eat my leftovers, it would probably take me a week to finish the whole thing. But it was sooooo good. The only thing not on my OK list was guac, but I mixed it in the whole thing and probably didn't get a whole lot for how much I ate. Then we went to see Chicken Little 3D, and I stole like 10 pieces of popcorn and chewed chewed chewed and had no problems there either. But then dinner comes and my son is SCREAMING for Chinese food, so I think okay I can have a little. I ate 2 bites of sesame chicken, 1.5 crabmeant rangoons (couldn't help myselft) and was stuffed, but I felt fine. Then we finally come home after and I fix myself a soy milk protein shake. Halfway through I know I'm sick as a dog. I spent the next HOUR sitting on the toilet (for obvious reasons) while throwing up into a bucket. So besides the fact I ate WAY to many calories today (I'm going to have to bust my butt at the gym next week), the news is.... Mexican Good....Chinese BAAAADDDDD! Even the thought of ever eating Chinese again gives me the willies. Thank goodness the mexican went down fine...it's one of my favorites. Sheryl (who is going to stick to her OK list for the rest of the week because now she knows the consequences)

I'll bet it was all of the suger in the sesame chicken that did ya in, or the chicken got kind of stuck and when you tried to fit the protien shake down it all had to come up. I have had a lot of trouble with Chinese since my first RNY. I rarely eat it without having to PAY BIG! Hugs, Dawn

Hi Sheryl!! I was wondering how come you can't eat guacamole? I love guacamole...

It's not that I can't, it's just not on my list of approved foods yet (but neither were sesame chicken and crab rangoons either). Guac is hign in fat, but it's a good fat, so I don't think a little will do any harm. My approved list of food says 1 teaspoon of fat per day is allowed, in any form I wan't, so I had the guac. The nutritionist said no fresh fruit or uncooked veggies yet. Avacados are fruit (I think), but she meant like apples and pears and things that would be hard to chew, so I don't think they count. She also said spicy stuff sometimes bothers people, but I've been using spicy stuff for a week now and have had no problems. Sheryl

I think it's what you had of Chinese food! I had Chinese the other day and I bit into the Sesame chicken and put it down because I had a funny feeling. I had a bite or two of Burbon Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken and I did fine. But I I had to go and sneak a egg roll home..........I ate it before I went to bed. Stupid me! It kinda got caught. Thank God I didn't throw up, but I was uncomfortable for a while! No more egg rolls for a while! I'll have to try the Mexican!!!!!!! Take care!

OMG, I love love love guacomole! You were brave girl! I would have been afraid to try all that! We were told not to eat rice for a long long time because it can swell in your pouch and cause a staple line rupture. Maybe they just say that to scare the crap out of us, but it works for me!!

THEY'RE NOT PULLING YOUR LEG ... RICE, PASTA, & SOMETIMES, GRITS WILL ACTUALLY EXPAND IN YOUR POUCH & YOU WILL BE IN MISERY, IF NOT IN MAJOR MEDICAL TROUBLE - YES, EVEN A RUPTURE. WE WENT TO A SUPPORT MEETING AT MUSC & LADIES A YEAR OUT STILL HAD TROUBLE WITH THE EXPANSION PROBLEM CAUSING THEM PAIN & SEVERE POUCH DISTRESS. ONE OF THE LADIES ON ANOTHER BOARD SAYS THAT GRITS "EXPLODE" IN HER POUCH ... SHE ACTUALLY FEELS THEM EXPANDING SO SHE DOESN'T EAT THEM ... THINK SHE'S 7 OR 8 MONTHS OUT. IT'S WAYYYYYY TOO EARLY TO BE EATING THESE THINGS, GIRLS & THEY ARE PURE, WHITE CARBS ... WHY ARE YOU EVEN THINKING ABOUT EATING THEM AT ALL? THEY ARE ON THE "NO" LIST ... SECOND ONLY AFTER REFINED SUGAR. NO SUGAR NO CARBS OTHER THAN GREEN VEGE CARBS NO WHITE CARBS - PASTA, RICE, POTATOS, BREAD, TORTILLAS ETC. NO FRIED FOODS NO FAST FOOD JUNK LIKE FRENCH FRIES & ONION RINGS NO SNACK FOODS LIKE POTATO CHIPS, TOTILLA CHIPS, CRACKERS, ETC. NO VEGES OTHER THAN GREEN VEGES & ONLY AFTER YOU HAVE ALL YOUR PROTEINS IN ... YES - FLUIDS 1st ... PROTEIN NEXT & ONLY IF YOU HAVE CALORIES LEFT, THEN GREEN VEGES ... REAL FRUIT IS LAST ON THE LIST ONLY IN SMALL AMOUNTS & ONLY AFTER ALL ELSE HAS BEEN EATEN & YOU HAVE CALORIES LEFT FOR THE DAY. AFTER HAVING YOUR STOMACH SEVERED, NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO GIVE BACK YOUR CONTROL TO FOOD! IT'S UP TO YOU ALONE, LADIES ... FAILURE OR SUCCESS ... THERE ARE NO MORE EXCUSES. IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO WHAT YOU PUT IN YOUR MOUTH NOW. I MAY NOT BE PREACHING A VERY POPULAR SERMON, BUT HOPEFULLY, IT WILL STOP SOMEONE FROM WRECKING THEIR LAST CHANCE AT HEALTH & NORMALCY. GOD BLESS DAWN & NICK

I hate to argue with you, but pasta, rice, potatoes, toast, and crackers are ALL on my list of approved foods from my surgeon and nutritionist. I haven't had grits, but I know they are on other peoples lists of food (my center does cream of wheat or cream of rice). I ALWAYS eat my protein first at EVERY meal. I get all my liquids in. I meet my protein requirements EVERY DAY. I work out. I take my vitamins. I tried a crab rangoon and paid for it. Shoot me. I have NOT given up control to food, and I resent the implication that I have. I will be 35 years old next month, and I already have a mommy. I don't need "the food police", but if it would make you feel better, I will fax my list of approved foods to you. This process is hard enough without people getting up on soapboxes. Sorry to sound so bitc*y, but you really pissed me off. Don't judge others, lest they judge you. Sheryl

IF YOU KNEW ME, MS SHERYL ... YOU WOULD KNOW THAT I AM NOT JUDGING YOU. THERE IS SOMEONE *****ADS THE BOARDS THAT IS JEOPARDIZING HER VERY HEALTH. THIS IS LIFE & DEATH IF HER POUCH RUPTURES. MY SURGEON HAS ALREADY HAD ONE DEATH BECAUSE THE PATIENT REFUSED TO FOLLOW HIS DIET RULES. I RELAYED MY SURGEON'S DIET RULES. IF YOUR SURGEON HAS DIFFERENT DIET RULES, THEN WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE WHAT I SAY? ... & WHY WITH SO MUCH RAGE? FOLLOW YOUR SURGEON'S RULES, OF COURSE! NEXT TIME YOU WANT TO CHEW A PIECE OF MY BACKSIDE OFF, BE MATURE ENOUGH TO ASK ME FIRST IF WHAT YOU THINK I MEANT, WAS REALLY WHAT I MEANT. IF I OFFEND SOMEONE, I WILL APOLOGIZE TO ANYONE. I JUDGE MYSELF DAILY, SWEETIE ... IF I OFFENDED YOU WITHOUT KNOWING IT, YOU TRULY HAVE MY DEEPEST APOLOGIES. NEXT TIME, PLEASE RESPECT ME ENOUGH TO ASK FIRST. GOD BLESS YOU DAWN & NICK

Dawn, You posted how bad it was to eat rice as a reply to my original post about how I ate rice. Tell me, how I was supposed to know that you weren't speaking to me? Since I am following my surgeons rules (with the crab rangoon exception), I don't care what you think, but other people *****ad this may, and I can guarantee they will also think you were repremanding me. So all I ask is that if you are worried about the health of someone (and I think you are a good person to be worried), please speak with her directly, and not through my posts. As for being angry, I believe I had every right, seeing as how I'm not a mindreader. If I had to double-check the meaning of everything that is said to me in a given day, I would never get anything done. I live by the words "Say what you mean and mean what you say". If you look in my profile, it says my psych tests show that I have low frustration levels. It's true, and your post did frustrate me. And I believe the fact that I am able to voice my frustration SHOWS that I am mature. As for RAGE....I save that for telemarketers and tax day. I hope your friend, whoever she is, can get control of her eating. You did offend me, so I will accept your apology, and I offer one in return, for "chewing off a piece of your backside". I hope we can get past this. Be Well. Sheryl
