Full Liquids
I have been reading some of the post on full liquids. I had my surgery at the Barix Center and just wanted compared diets.
First week --- clear liquids only
2nd and 3rd week - full liquids ( blended soups, yogurt, broths, protein drinks.)
4th and 5th - Puree food - (food with the consistany of mashed potatoes)
6th week - soft food - (anything soft cheese, cearal soften in milk, ground meat etc.)
7th week - regular food
This is what others are doing? I know every doctor is different but I just wanted to see the differences.
Thanks.
DOlores
Mine is:
2-5 days clear liquids
advance to full liquids when ready (after 2-5 days) Milk, thin mashed potatoes, thin grits, sf yogurt, protein shakes, sf pudding, applesauce, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, bananas (lasts 1-3 weeks)
2-3 weeks full liquids to pureed foods, adding peanut butter, tuna, blended with fat free gravy or broth beef, chicken, turkey, pork, fish, or veal, Non starchy veg, blended fruit, blended soup, cooked cereal, blended starchy veg.
6 weeks-6 months start adding in solid foods one new solid per day.
I wish I could have the blended soups now, I am getting sick of full liquids but have to wait until my two week post op to start Pureed foods. Only a few more days, I can make it, better to be safe..Susan
Here's what my surgeon does:
Days 1-3 in the hospital: Clear Liquids
Days 3-14 at home: Full liquids (he includes purees here)
After that you go on soft foods for 2 weeks (week 3 and 4)
Then slowly more "regular" foods for 2 weeks (weeks 5 and 6)
After week 6 you are back to pretty much everything you had before, but they want you to stick with low fat, high protein stuff (for obvious reasons).
I'm figuring I'll be on "normal" food again Dec. 1st... not too long to go!
I'm looking forward to my mashed potatoes and 3 oz of turkey for Thanksgiving though.

They combined our puree phase with our soft food phase and this is what they list for soft:
Scrambled eggs
Poached or soft boiled egg
Pureed soups or egg drop soups
Pureed bean dishes
Creamy peanut butter
Any soy product in form of powder, tofu, tempeh etc.
Cottage cheese
Un sweetened apple sauce
Oatmeal thinned with skim milk
Grits
Cream of wheat
Mashed potatoes thinned with broth
Baby shrimp - chew very well
White, flaky fish
Liverwurst and pâté
Low-fat, un sweetened yogurt
Low-salt table crackers (I bought low sodium wheat thins instead -- I'm not a big unrefined carb eater, haven't been for years, since I dropped 80 lbs and was trying not to gain it back, but I do love multigrain bread on occasion so the wheat thins are what I'm settling for in the meantime!)
Hi Dolores!
My diet is based on the fact that I had an Open RNY Sapalla/Wood Micropouch surgery from Cori Center:
Week 1: Clear liquids
Week 2: Full liquids (strained soups, sf yogurt, dairy, runny mashed potatoes, cream of wheat, etc.)
Week 3: Pureed foods (this includes cheese slices, eggs, blended cooked veggies, etc...)
Week 4: Solids (I have to try one new food a day...just like a baby starting out of jar food )
I have to admit that I am now on week 2 and I started it one day early. I couldn't stand the clear liquids any longer!!! I also have to admit that I blend my soups instead of straining them. I am not saying that progressing the diet is for everyone, but you kind of have to listen to your own body. I am not doing anything that my dr. would yell at me for (I hope!) .
Hugs!
